    Wierd problem

I am running a P75 off a sproggy. It has been working fine until recently, the motherboard will run for about 5 min then shut off. I cannot get it to turn back on. I took it into my room the next day and it worked fine all night (with the same sproggy powering it). I put it back in the car and it worked for about five minutes. The motherboard refuses to boot again. I have a fan on the processor and plenty of air flow. All voltages on the spoggy are correct. Any ideas?

What's the battery voltage on the car? Both running and not running.

Not running, the accesory line supplies 11.89 V running, it is about 13. I don't believe this is an issue because I have run the player many times with the engine off (and the player is malfunctioning with the engine on). I am also able to crank the car and the player goes on uninterupted. It doesn't seem to be very picky about it's 12V line. In my room, the sproggy was being powered from the 12V line of a computer power supply.

That looks fine, but it is going to be a problem with the car. Since you say that it works fine on the same supply in the house (presumably, off an AC 12VDC power supply) then something must be wrong with the car...Bad grounds? Intermittant fuse?

Thing is I measured all the voltages right after it happened. All were correct. Tried rebootoing it, that didn't work. I can't imagine what it would be.

Shortly after I built my plexiglass case and put the computer inside, it would only boot sometimes. I'm pretty sure it was a static electricity problem since the hair on my arm would stand on end when I put my hand inside. It eventually dissapated by itself and the computer has worked fine ever since. Could your problem be similar?

Also could heat or poor ventilation be a problem?

I'm just trying to think of what could be different between the car environment and the house. You say that the same sproggy is powering it. Have you checked the voltages right at the input of the sproggy in the car?
