Run all the usb,serial etc etc down into the center console or somewhere else besides the face (It will take away from the look of the "radio" in my mind and also
how about buying a cheap cd player, ripping it apart, running the slot load dvd right up against the head unit and also running the individual controls to a matrix orbital keypad, therefore giving you a completely stock looking radio that is really a pc :)
Even going so far as to connect the head unit's eject to the slot load's eject, making it completely invisible that there is a pc back there!

What you gonna do about a power supply? Is it going in the same box, or are you running an external unit?
How about air circulation, won't that be an issue when it's all stuck inside the dash?

Arby you mentioned aluminum, any idea how you would construct a PC case out of aluminum sheets? Is welding involved? I was going to attempt this but ran into a wall when trying to figure out how to attach the sides of the case...obviously some parts of the edges can be bent, but then how to attach?
If you're not handy with a MIG welder, you can use a "cold weld" type approach. There is an adhesive named JB-Weld (I believe). If that doesn't do it .. you could always pop-rivet the box =)Quote:
