What if you fold the ribbon cable, wrap it into some kind of metal tape (or aluminium foil and duct tape) and then ground it (the metal tape/foil).
Will this reduce interferance?
80 wire cables have every other wire grounded. The theory is that this reduces interference within the cable (that is, interference on one wire caused by another wire). This is not going to help you avoid external interference (like from your power cable or something).

that might help, and cdrom/dvd etc drives dont even use ata33, they're much slower (pio).Originally posted by Dimitris1976:

If you want to be cool get some soft copper piping and run the cable through there (before you crimp on the connectors). That would be neat.

I didn't say it didn't work. However, I am pretty suspect of the durability of an IDE cable in an automobile. Good luck, I suppose.

Here's a question: How are you going to power that DVD-ROM when its in your dash? Power is my biggest concern these days...
Very simple,
I have allready layed out all my wires I need. I have calculated I will need to run 8 sets of video/audio wires down the driver side and 4 or 5 sets of power wires down the passenger side.
1 of the power cables is a 20 foot 3 conductor cable I made that is basically a molex extension cable. At the end, I will split it with molex splitters to add more devices that need 12 or 5 volts.
The DVD-ROM is layed accross my room now. The power is simple.
