heh, lots of people do standby, and its generally quicker than hibernation. It does take a little more to get configured, but imo its worth it. btw i mean s3 standby only

I was planning to get one as a cheap HTPC/PVR....put it into standby and it can come out of it when it needs to record or turn on really quick when I want to watch TV.

Car use diffenatly has to be hiberation....by the time you set urself in the seat and buckle up, your computer is probably out of hibernation. It also doesn't matter much since most usb GPS require about 30-45 sec from cold start to work.

Thats an interesting idea, have it wake from standby be generating a wol singal or something.. my HTPC as of now, runs 24/7 and has been doing so for weeks

Well, my gps surely doesnt take more than 15 seconds, and i'm generally ready to go about 5 seconds after I turn the key.

After you have your pc in your car for about two years, the 30 second additional wait, will have you taking your pc out and decreasing the boot/resume time.

Car use diffenatly has to be hiberation....
Oh there are plenty of people who will disagree with you on this, I am one of them. There are plenty of threads on decreasing boot time, which suggest against hibernation and for s3.

Id rather stick to hibernating, and letting my M2-ATX shut completely off after 45 seconds so i never have to worry about my battery getting drained to the point i may not be able to start my car. Besides, like already stated, first thing i do is start my car, then i buckle up and all that, and usually let the engine warm up about 30 seconds or so anyways, so by the time im ready to move, the system is already up and running. Also, i dont know what GPS mouse you guys are using but with my Holux GR-213U, theres like 5 seconds between waking from hibernate, and my Nav updating to my correct location. This is with IG3 and Mobile Impact both running when the car turns off and sends the pc to hibernate.

Im not saying that hibernate is the only way or the best way to go with a car system, but for my routine, it works best and i feel least concerned with my cars power supply going this route. To be honest, even with 1gb of ram and a 4200rpm hard drive, most of my boot-up time is from POST and memory test at power-on. The resume from hibernate takes all of like 5 seconds or so.

Has anyone installed XPe in their carputer.
Only thing i noticed, you can verify this for me, but when i get properties of my computer, it reads Via Esther 1.5ghz, but says its running something like 753mhz. Im sure this is not correct because if i run a CPU test, it gives me an actual run speed of 1.49ghz. I think the new bios confuses windows ability to recognize the operating speed of the C7 processor. Perhaps the A6 update will address this issue when it gets released.

Thats good, its what fits you best. Alot of people have a different "routine" so to speak, when they get in their car. Me, I normally start driving about 5 seconds after unlocking my doors. So like you said, it depends on what best suits you. For me its s3, for you its hibernate, neither is better. Although the fact that s3 could eventually drain my battery does make hibernation better if you dont drive your car everyday.

Yea, and besides, you cant get a better deal on a MiniITX motherboard at this time that comes with as many options as this one does. For me, thats its best selling point. One downside, im not sure if its the motherboard or my particular usb dvd drive, but i can't for the life of me figure out how to make it bootable. Its the Lite-On slim slot load 8x dvd+-rw on newegg. I probably wont ever need to worry about it since ill bring it inside if i ever need to reinstall windows, but it would have been nice in case i ever needed to run microscope to do system diagnostics and tests if i ever run into problems down the road.

With the BIOS setted to USB-CDROM boot doesn't work? I tried to boot with CF, but found out that only certain CF cards are bootable

Ive tried all combinations of settings in the BIOS to make my DVD bootable to no avail. I never did try it with the original BIOS thou, so i dont know if that has anything to do with it. The drive works amazingly well from inside Windows thou, so its just a boot issue i am having. To be honest, between that and the normal crappy-ness of the M2-ATX that has been well documented on the forums, those seem to be my only two problems to sort out with my install. I already made a workaround by mounting a remote reset button into my center console to get the board to kick on properly at startup, and once i figure out this dvd bootable issue which i think is more my drive being incompatible than the board not working right, i can give my car that 100% complete on build phase. Software phase will never end thou.

Does anyone know where to get an opengl driver for the video card on this board? I am trying to get the roadrunner google earth pluggin working & it is working except the video card is mostly showing black polygons under directx mode. Same thing with Goops. I was hoping to try opengl mode & see if that helps. Thanks.
