    Info on installing hardware...

    Hi,

I'm pretty new to the whole carputer thing. I was wondering whether anyone can help me with some answers to my questions...( I apologise if this is the wrong area for this type of query, couldn't find any relevant areas...)

I have a M1-ATX powering my computer a touch screen and 4ch Amp. They all need 12V direct source to the battery (assumption).

My question is, how do I power all these from the battery? Do I need to supply separate in-line fuses for all three components? Also how do I fix the wires to the + battery terminal?

    Your help is GREATLY appreciated!!!

One way is with a distribution block.
Run one thicker gage wire (4AWG or thicker, typically) from the battery to the distro block, which then splits the power up to thinner wires (8 or 10AWG, typically) that run to each of your components. My suggestion is to get a distro block with fuses for each of the components.
For ease of wiring, StreetWires makes a combination distro block for both power and ground and all the power connections are fused, although the fuses are sold seperately.
It's a nice little package, IMHO.

    Actually, no.
You want a fuse on the thicker wire close to the battery, definitely. You want the fuse within 18" of the battery.
The whole idea behind a distro block is to only run one long cable run (albeit a thicker wire) and multiple shorter ones, as opposed to many longer runs.
