I emailed them and they said it doesn't have to be shipped that method. They had one that was $14 bux but they said any UPS method is fine and theres a "Standard To Canada" method that is only $7.40

    Maybe I'll try that.

Guys do you think that GPS will work in Australia ...if i get an Australian (Sydney) map?

And one more thing ...is it 100% Satilite controlled GPS? Cos the ones we have here are Tower/Satilite controlled.

Yeah, it should work fine anywhere in the world.
    Its completely satellite based.
I think the tower thing you are speaking of is a slightly more advanced form of gps where the satellites acquire the inital fix and the towers correct for errors.
    You don't need that to.
The US government turned off Selective Availability awhile ago. This was what caused civilian satellite based GPS' to be intentionally somewhat inaccurate, but that is no more.

    Mantis,

Have you done any tests to see if you can get power off of the serial port instead of using an external switch for the batteries? It looks like the guy that did the first hack page was on the right track on getting power from the serial.

I'm still waiting for my tripmate to arrive and I can't wait to do a little hack work.

I couldn't get the link to work either. I am very interested in it and am thinking about buying a monitor just to put this in but cannot find out about the travelmate without url working.:/

I got mine coming in the mail up to Canada. 7 bux shipping I can deal with... can't wait to tweak it out.

Now I just need software for when I go down to Australia. Anybody have any suggestions?

click on the one that says skymap 2000/GPS. The MSRP is $200, but you can get it from CNET for $83 US. check out the software with this puppy. VOICE CONTROLS, tiny reciever, etc. I was gonna get an Earthmate, but this looks much better, and cheaper.
