Question questions before I start building

Hi. I'm about to start putting together a PC for my car. Here is what I've got planned. A PC in the trunk, a 5 or6" LCD screen in the Dash, and a USB CDROM in the dash. probably going to run linux, also probably just going to use an inverter for power(I can get one pretty cheap). I'm trying to spend around 300$ for the whole thing.. where I am having trouble is deciding on a hard drive. Will a PC hard drive be abel to take the bunps from the road, or should I spend some extra money and go with a lap top drive ? any suggestion or advice would be great! I plan on starting to build this thing in about 2 or 3 weeks... thanks!

any hard drive *WILL* work... obviously laptop drives are going to be a bit more shock resistant, no normal drive is shock proof....

as for mounting some people say mount the drive vertically so the head doesnt hit the disks.

please search, these topics have been covered in great length....

Really a normal HD should do the trick, I have an old 2 gig hd, and it is just sitting on the power suply unit, without even being screwed into anything at all, and it hasn't skipped at all (i drive my car fairly hard...) It's not permanently there, but so far, no problems.

mount your HDD on its side so that a heavy bump doesnt whack the drive heads into the platters.... not sure if thats total BS or what, but it hasnt failed me for over 4 years - so who am I to argue?

I can agree on the vert mounting thing,
In my truck I have 2 HDD mounted vertically with the passenger seat holding the unit in, sometimes on startup the system doesent see my keypad and i must unplug then replug it in, to do this i have to tilt the seat foward and must push the seat back semi-gently, if i just pop it back like nothing was behind it it causes the whole system to lock, I know that this may not be the HDD head crashing, but I think thats what the cause is. But either way, it couldent hurt

Orientation does not matter.... Mount it firmly and let it run.
Do a little searching to find how many car wrecks my current drive has been in
