    Problem with IDE-to-USB adapter?

    Hi!

I have ordered IDE-to-USB adapter from CarTFT:

I would like to have hot-swappable hard disc drive connected to USB, because I can remove it any time I want. But the problem is, that when I plug USB in, there is no new device detected. And of course, HDD has power (molex connector) and also USB adapter (floppy connector). USB adapter also has yellow LED turned on.

    Any ideas?

    Regards!

    Hello,
I have ordered the same adapter. My problem is after starting windows i can see my dvd drive and can work with it, but after a minute or so, the dvd drive is disconnected and I have to connect my drive by putting the usb connecter out and in.
My drive is connected near the computer with a 0.5 meter usb-cable and is connected to the m2-atx.
    Could someone help?

I am also using M2-ATX and VIA EPIA, but the drive is not recognized even if I try on my desktop computer... when I plug in USB connector, nothing happens... no new devices in Device Manager, no new Drive or info about it in Disk Management. I also checked at bios post, when you can see how many USB are pluged in... and it looks like it doesn't recognize it. Maybe adapter doesn't work at all..

Have you tried all the different ports? Also have you ever clicked "cancel" or "don't install this now" for a usb device on that board? I know some EPIA boards will self destruct if you do that and block out it's usb drivers until you reinstall the driver. I would getthe latest driver and update the usb. Then reboot and see what pops up. you have to be careful with the via boards. (I have one though, and I love it though!)

No, it's brand fresh install of Windows XP, never clicked "don't install" or something similar. And even if I try it on desktop computer, it is the same. I tried different ports... the one integrated on moterboard and on the front of the case...

I have to apologize, I figured out what I have done wrong. My HDD was without any jumpers, that means it was in "SLAVE" mode... when I put it to "MASTER" it was detected and everything works like it should!

Ti-ejtsch. it's most likely your power management settings for drives.
