Ok so i am a newbie. And i kinda have a clue what i need. But... I dont know how to get started building my computer. I am looking to spend around 300. Is there a nice system i could buy for 300? Can you guys please help.

Just try to find an used computer. I have an old Pentium1 mainboard with vga and sb16 onboard. An Intel CPU of 133MHz is enough for mp3, but a 166 or higher can decrease startup time.
If you search good, the system only could cost lower than $100.
your local classified section might be another place to look.

What do you want the PC to do? Are you just looking to play MP3, or do you want to do other stuff too (DVD, GPS, etc). How much time to do want to devote to the project? Are you happy just putting a tower in the trunk of the car or do you want to customize your setup?
You mentioned you're looking to spend $300, so right now you might have a simple setup that just plays MP3s, but leave yourself room to grow down the road. Get an idea of what your ultimate car PC would be, then slowly build towards that goal.
