From my own experience you must use a processor that works with the board then updated it from the dos prompt if you dont want to go thru the whole process of installing windows. Beside that it not going to work with the cpu.
Hi guys,
New here, but I had a quick question. If anyone has had this experience and could help me out it'd be greatly appreciated.
I just purchased this board with a Merom processor.
I know a BIOS revision is necessary for this board to work with Merom, but does that mean I must put a Yonah processor on first, install a Windows operating system, update BIOS, then replace the Yonah processor with the Merom processor? There's no other way? Aopen said to contact the reseller to get the BIOS updated, but would a high-volume reseller really take the time to do that? Or you think they have stock boards that have the updated BIOS by now?
With the Merom processor on and with no drives connected, the computer halts on a ACPI Controller IRQ. Google says the board is looking for something to boot from, but that can't be it since it can't even get pass this error to even try booting from the hdrive or cd-rom.
Thanks again for any help or suggestions you guys might have.

Weird thing though is that the BIOS recognizes the clock speed and the fact that it's a Core 2 Duo processor. I thought Merom was backward compatible with Yonah, and figured the board might just run the processor at a slower clock or with limited functionality, enough to at least update the BIOS.
Thanks though for your help.
I also thought the board would recognize the cpu but at a different clock speed. Have you tried to upgrade the bios with a diskette?
Hey, I'm in the same boat. The problem is, the computer won't even get to POST. It just hangs at a screen that shows the ICQ settings and something that says 2202. I've tried booting to DOS to flash but with no luck. If someone knows how to flash without needing a CPU please let us know. In any case, I bought a Yonah which I'm going to install just to flash and then return minus the 15% restocking fee. Quite annoying.
And finally, my BIOS is rev 1.00, just curious but which revision allowed the Merom CPU's to work?
The problem is, Kalt, that I can't update the BIOS with a diskette, since it can't get past the PCI listings. It halts before it even seek out whatever's connected to the IDE, hdrive, cd-rom, or floppy.
Gooser711, I believe after 1.05. Can you let me know if you are more successful with the Yonah? I believe that might be the problem.
A pain, indeed.
cyu06, my T1300 "Yonah" chip came in today. I put it in, booted up DOS from my flash key, flashed to the most recent BIOS, took the Yonah out, put back in the "Merom T5600" and it worked. I'm loading the OS on now and putting the T1300 back in the box to return. So it did in fact work like I thought it would. It's unfortunate that the BIOS was never updated on my recently purchased board, but it's the price of new tech I guess.
I suggest booting to DOS with a USB key to flash the drive like I did, as the Yonah is 32 bit (I believe) and the Merom is 64 bit. I hope this information helps you out. Good luck.
Thanks Gooser,
I'm sure that will fix my problem, too. I ordered my Yonah processor also.
Problem is, I'm using this for a project, and will need to do it to 16 of these boards. Lots of putting on and pulling off processors. Pain in the butt.
