    Post IR port on Book-PCs

I am probably going to purchase the MS-6215 Book-pC for my carputer. I have heard I wouldn't need IRman for this machine because it already has a built-in Infared port. Well if this is true then would I just get software like Girder and it would just work with any remote? Also, is it possible to extend the IR eye from the computer case to somewhere more practical?

Along those same lines My motherboard has an external IR port on the back. I would like an answer to the same question!

Also Can I use this port with Cobra III? What type of remote s do the work with?

HunterC4: yes you can extend the any IR EYE to any where u want.....

Falcon64Travis & HunterC4. I don't think that IR is the same type IR as in IRman or the universal onces. I believe the IR on that machine is the same type that comes with laptop and alot of todays PC. I forgot the exact IR name there are called. Anyway to make a long story short, they use a diff type of protocol to communicate. There are mainly used for sending and recieving files and sometimes for network connectivities to other PC equiped with that IR features

okay I know what ur talking about. I used to have a HP Jornado PocketPC that had one. It can communicate with printers and other palms etc. I wonder if there is a hack to make it work with remote controls? I know there is one to make it a remote control for any TV/VCR. But I need a hack that makes it receive remote control commands.

The IR port on the MSI-6215 is called SIR. I don't know if that's the same as IrDa.. you can read the manual on the BIOS on their website at www.msicomputer.com

I know that www.pcremotecontrol.com supports IrDa. As to how reliable it is... I don't know cuz i didn't try. My previous attempts to get IrAssistant and Girder to work with IrDa has failed.
    just my 2 cents worth..
