DennisK Display: Noise and alignment issues?

Ok I got my DennisK display and I just turned it on for the first time.

    Three questions:

First, does anyone notice any noise in the VGA signal? Maybe its cause im looking at the screen really close, or maybe its because im used to this digitally connected LCD on my laptop, but it seems there's a small amount of noise. Its not a problem at all, but Im just wondering if others are seeing it.

Second and more importantly, I notice that the VGA image is off center 5-10 or so pixels up and to the left. Anyone notice this?

Third, how did most of you go about shorting the CNC1 p3-p6 for a long term connection?

Mine doesn't have any noise and I don't have an offset image. I shorted the pins by using one of those extra sets of wires that came with it. I pulled two wires from the connector and just left the one in there.

That probably makes absolutely no sense, but it just plugged in and it's beautiful.

thanks i think i got it now, before leaving for work i played with it some more. i got the alignment issue taken care of i think. i took out the jumper and put it back in, and plugged everything back together and it was ok. The noise didnt seem to be a big issue either. the colors seem slightly ..off.. in lack of a better word, but they work.. most of the time. if i watch a high color bg or divx movie i can tell there arent enough colors..otherwise its cool. i havent yet checked the wiring with the wiring fix that was posted a while ago, but this should be normal, even with the fix, right?

when you used the extra cables hanging around to short the two pins for the backlight, did you shave off the top parts of them so that they would fit in, or did you not need to? i only had a few mins to look at it before i had to go this morning, and it seemed to me that id need to..

also.. when running your screen do you notice the 'main' processor looking chip on the controller getting really warm/hot after a little bit of use (ie a few mins)?

I didn't notice any heat issues.

With those extra cables (the ones with the 3 prong connectors.. came in a little plastic baggy). I just took one of those, pulled out two of the wires, which left just the one wire running to both connectors. Then, I shaved off the top of the connector (those little tabs) and plugged them into CNC1. Works perfectly.

    Unhappy

Thanks for your replies..I think I may have a problem.
I am seeing slight ghosting and slight noise in my signal.. is your display showing everything pixel perfect with zero ghosting?

After running your controller for say 15 minutes, is the Genesis chip warm/hot to the touch?

To setup the card all I did was plug one end of the LCD cable into the LCD, the other two into the LCD controller (only one way they'd fit), then shorted JA6, connected CNC1 pins 3-6, connected the inverter to the LCD and to the lcd controller (again, it fits only one way) then i gave the LCD controller 12V to the tip, ground on the barrel, and connected a VGA cable to my laptop. Im running it at 640x480, 60hz although Ive upped it all the way up to 75 before -same thing, and either 256 or 16-bit color.
Do you see anything wrong with this..?

    Nope, sounds right.

I have no ghosting, and the image looks every bit as good as 12 bit color can look. Also, you won't have to change the Hirose as it comes correctly wired now. Dennis said that only the first few batches came incorrectly wired and it's since been fixed.

I would return the screen if you can't correct the problems, as they are not normal for this screen.

Another thing you could do is drop Dennis a line. I was surprised that he actually knew things about the screen and wasn't just a reseller. Or at least it *seems* like he knows things.

    thanks..
i dont think its the screen though; i think it could be the cable in that somehow its getting interference. i will try to test the whole thing with a different computer, vga cable, and at a different location. if none of that works i will try to get another lcd cable. if that doesnt work... i dunno. i dont even know for sure if this is correct as it is (am i being spoiled by my laptop's lcd..?). right now the ghosting doesnt seem as bad. but still, on a solid blue background i can see a 'moving haze'... then again, im watching the screen from <2ft. so i dunno...

have you tried running your controller for a while? does the genesis chip get hot to the touch? do you see any artifacts at all in the image, from <2ft viewing distance? what color depth do you have windows set to..?

if you could help me with these basic things so i can know where im starting at, i would appreciate it..

I haven't had any heat issues with the LCD/VGA controller. My screen looks fine at any distance (well, as good as an 8.4 can look *grin*).

I have WinXP set to 640x480, 16 bit color, 60hz.

Say tek, where did you get your touchscreen controller? I remember reading that you didn't buy it from DennisK (or at least, you were looking for other places to get it).
