Can I use RJ-45 network cable for wiring to my LCD (it is 8-pin I counted). How long can it run (VGA signal)?
i had one of these in my car and found it to be prety lousy, anyway thats really besides teh point, the picture above modulates teh signal it isnt just an rj45 connector connected to the vga port then the little box that the rj45 cable and the monitor plug into decodes it at the other end,
my experience was that doing it this way made the fonts and edges of windows a bit blury but that was only my opinion, what you are asking to do is a viable option, and would most liely work better than this machine above and the cat5/6 ethernet cable is probably a lot better quality than most cheap vga cables out there anyway!
not to ask a silly question but is there any reason you would want to do it using rj45 connectors and ethernet cable rather than just buy an inexpensive vga extension cable?
A good VGA to Ethernet converter like this one from Black Box seem to be more expensive then their worth for the distance your talking about. In a car the most distance you should need is 10 ft. People use the CAT 5 solution when they want to go 100 ft. or more. (This one goes up to 500 ft.)

CarPC Progresss: Planning [x-------------------]
yeah, unless your building one of those really huge streach limo jobs, a vga cable even at 15' should be fine....
MY NEWEST INSTALL:modded infiniti fx with big screen
first windows carpc install........my liquid cooled LVDS screen :D
I have one of the black box extenders witrh the ps/2 ports aswell i use it to access my server (in the cellar from my office upstairs) it does the job but it still has the same problem of not being great quality, this suits my needs just for the server however for dvd playback/navigation etc its not so great, however i think between us the general concensus is just to buy a vgacable form eBay or something
The reason i want to use rj45 is because the vga cable is too fat and not easy to wire in my car. rj45 thickness is 5-6mm i recall. my lcd vga plug is also 8 pins.
btw the above product may fit my need. it is "3-cable-system carputer" the guy told me. my concern solved running 3 rj45 from boot to my dash is easy for newbie like me
