    5v Fan

At present I'm putting together my new system, and at present the only thing I need 12v for is the fan. Anyone know where I could get a 5v on the prossess in a Pentium 233 MMX jobie.

Why cant you connect it to the car electrical system? Fans dont need a regulated output, and will happlily run off 14.4v instead of 12v.

Are you sure about this, as if the fan fails it all goes up in smoke. Althought I can't see any reason why unregulated wouldn't work fine, I might have to see what happens when I crank to engine however.

Works great. Do you think that all those people with fans on their amp enclosures have power supplies? Fans are suprisingly durable and should last you a fairly long time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you should be able to hook a 12V fan to a 5V line. It'll just run slower than normal.

But I agree with the consensus of hooking it directly to the car's 12v line.

All my fans are connected to unregulated +12V....Seems to work fine for me since they have been running for 3 years.

My car's electrical system in working properly, with a good battery (Optima Red Top) and a good working alternator. I don't need kludges like tank circuits.

But seriously, a few seconds of cranking isn't going to hurt a fan at all.
