Turn off USB boot in teh BIOS setup.
It has nothing to do with power to the USB bus. It has to do with the fact that the PC is trying to boot from one or more of those devices.
Sorry if this is a n00b question... i did a search and there is tons of stuff on USB, it was so much to look through. I am having issues getting the computer started up when i have some, more than less USB devices hooked up while starting.
The Computer:I have an Epia m10000 mainboard, with 1 gig of ram
M2-ATX power supply - ONLY for the computer
USB stuff.
1 USB hub in the trunk - self powered by 5volt regulator
1.1 GPS
1.2 XMPCR
1.3 60gig Bus powered 2.5inch external drive
1.4 Dlink Wireless Adapter
2. USB hub in the glove box - self powered through an opus (which also powers my screen, dvd, and the external Sound Blaster).
2.1 Sound blaster 24bit external
2.2 Bluetooth dongle
2.3 DVD drive
2.4 USB card reader (cf, sd)
this would be alot to run off of the bus, but these hubs are all SELF powered running direct 5 volt regulated off of a power supply for each.
It basically starts up and hangs on the bios screen and it does nothing... sometimes it will go barely past that and it will hang again on a black screen.
Once the computer is powered up, and i hook everything up, it all works fine, but it just cant boot with all of it... this is reallly really lame, anyone have any ideas??
oh, and if i unplug MOST of the usb devices from the hub in the trunk it works... but only sometimes. What am i missing here, shouldn't this mainboard have a powerful enough usb bus to run all of this ****?

I have sort of the same problem. I know it has something to do with my usb memory stick. If its not there, it wont find my sata disk during post. When I stick it in, reset it and it will detect the harddrive and will boot just fine. After a while I had the issue again and it needs to be unplugged in order to boot. There is no real systematic in this.
I had this after I had an USB issue. Once in Windows I heared the specific USB hooked up sound a lot, like 1 per second. I checked the bios and suddenly usb-boot was on top. I disabled it but the problem won't go away. Bios is just fine right now.
Hey!
I hade some problems while booting my carputer.
I have a via MII 1.2ghz mainboard and and ITX Automotive 160W PSU.
When I try to boot my computer with all usb-units attached the system allways freezes during memory tests.
When i remove my usb-memory the system will boot as normally.
I have and usbhub wich i gave a separate powercable without succes..
When I changed the boot stop/error-controll stuff from "all, but keybord" to " never stop" my problems disapeared..
Probably not the right way to solve it, but it works for me.![]()
