    Excellent news!

They're going to customize the video BIOS free of charge.

All I have to do is send them the data sheet for the 9.0" 800x480 LVDS LCD panel that I'm getting.

Once that's done, I'll send the BIOS image to whoever wants it - just PM me if you need it.

I'm glad you're on top of this. I'm planning a very similar setup. PM sent.

I ordered my 986LCD yesterday, by calling Kontron directly.

    Total was $487:
    986LCD was $396
Accessory kit was $15 - all the cables and such.
Low profile (1U) heatsink / fan was $76.

I have a nice 24" widescreen LCD at home, which I should be able to use to test 800x480 on Analog VGA..

Of course, at that resolution, each pixel will be about 5mm in size..

so this video BIOS will support 800x480 on all video outputs (VGA, DVI, LVDS)? What LVDS panel you using?

Well, the first thing I will test will be the analog VGA, to see if it supports 800x480 with the standard BIOS.

If it does, then that helps 90% of the people here.

I can test DVI as well, but I'll need to get a SDVO PCI Express add-on card to do so.

The LVDS LCD panel will be a 9.0" Wide panel, 800x480 at 24-bit color (16M), single channel LVDS.

See my thread in LCD section for details..

Since it's single-channel, according to Kontron I should be able to connect two LCD panels to the onboard LVDS.

I updated my order from Kontron yesterday to include the DVI add-on card.. it was $27, and goes in the PCI-E slot.

Also, the accessory kit is $76, not the fan.. the fan is $15.

I also ordered the black Opus Itx case from Mp3car.

The opus 120W supply is enough for the board under heavy load, according to the 986LCD's manual power draw reports..

Interestingly enough, I bought an engineering sample 986LCD board a couple months back (haven't put it together yet into a carPC) and it has both a PCI-X slot, a regular PCI slot, and a mini-PCI slot. Looking at Kontrons website, the actual ones for sale don't make any mention of the regular PCI slot.

    Anyone know what happened?

Wow, I'm surprised.. yours didn't come with a PCI slot?

I'm pretty sure that the manual, dated in November, listed a PCI slot, with support for a 2-slot riser.

Let me check with my Kontron sales engineer.. my board ships dec 15th, so it had better have a Pci slot...

No, mine does come with a PCI slot, as well as a PCI-X slot, and a mini-PCI. But if you look at kontrons website, it doesn't mention the PCI slot

At first glance, they don't mention it.. but it's there in the spec sheets.. the PcI slot is why I bought it..

The slot underneath is Pci express mini, not mini pci.. slight difference.
