Well, I can think of uses for two screens - one in the dash at radio level, and one on top of the dash.
Something like the one in the dash for MP3's / whatever, and the one on top for GPS navigation or a virtual gauge display (e.g, turbo boost pressure, etc, via OBD II).
And the third one? I dunno, I haven't quite figured a use for that yet, or a good place to put it.
But since I'm getting a dual-display LVDS card that goes in the PCI Express slot, I have the capability of doing three displays.

Nice. I never got the accessory pack with mine, I'm just using various things I have from other projects.
just don't under stand way it cost soo much... I'm going to stick with full size boards and hide them the best i can... easier to up grade to the next gen. I know we don't need much to get our carputer going but dang thats a bit of $$
but...... I'm just jealous that u got such a nice board....
Yay for Carputers
Work log
I loaded up the customized bios that Kontron has provided (version 1.0, Display Module version 7), and tested out the 800x480 support.
Even though I do not yet have the LCD panel, it works in Analog VGA mode!
The trick is to enable these settings in the BIOS, and to set the Intel graphics drivers to Dual Display Clone mode.
Here's a shot of the BIOS screen - you use the Tab key to cycle through the columns, and Enter to select 800x480, NEC, and then the LCD panel model.
You don't even have to HAVE the LCD panel for this to work on Analog VGA.
I enabled it on mine, and I can run my 24" widescreen desktop LCD at 800x480.. it's a very small image on this screen, but it looks good.![]()
Well, this particular board cost so much because it's an Intel Core 2 Duo capable board - though you don't have to run such a fast processor.. it'll do the lower cost Celeron M processors too.
In my case, the cost of the Core 2 Duo processor at 2.0ghz and the 2GB of RAM I got was about the same cost as the board itself..
I also basically paid "retail" price on the board itself, and was likely to be one of the first few buyers of the production board.
I chose to pay the high price due to the board's features and capabilities, which fit my needs, but would most likely be beyond the majority of people here.
I mean, this board has three Gigabit Ethernet ports on it.. THREE.
That's overkill even in my requirements - but I'm sure I could make use the ports in some fashion.
Well done, just wish commell will do the same for the LV-677, seems that it only supports widescreen res, but not 800x480.
What was your total cost for the board and bits and pieces?

Actually, I may be able to work something out with the Intel Embedded Graphics Drivers - the Intel Extreme onboard graphics should be able to do 800x480 no problem.. It gets a little trickier with LVDS, but I should be able to manage that as well.
Prices in US Dollars:
986LCD: $396
Cable Accessory Kit: $76
Heatsink: $15
ADD2-DVI card: $27
Core 2 Duo, 2.0 Ghz: $295
Patriot Signature 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC5300 DDR2 RAM: $207
Total: $1016, +/- ~$20 or so.
You could drop the price significantly by going with a Core Solo or Celeron M processor, and less memory.
I should note that the price I paid for the motherboard was retail - they haven't quite made it out to distributors, so the price was high.
Thanks for that champ!
Seems I can't choose on either the LV-677 or the 986LCD.
Seeing as this is for a carpc I can't see the need for 3 LAN ports and as for SATA I doubt I'd be using anything like that too.
I do like the 986LCD based on that fact that they offered the res 800X480 so looks like there is great support for this board.
Do you have any idea when it will be released and available to buy?
BTW - what's with the cable kit?
Cheers
Kosti
