Current thoughts are to build a 3-slot case about 2U high, or 3.5" tall - 1U is 1.75", a common server rack unit.

It would be about 1/2" taller than the Opus ITX case, and probably a little wider and deeper.

The top slot is for the PCI Express slot, and is offset so a 2U PCI Express riser can be used without an extension, like this one:

The bottom two are for the PCI slots, to be used with a flex riser as mentioned above - either the Casetronic one from LS, or the one from Kontron.

I got a phone call from Kontron here in Sydney Australia, they mentioned that the board is available and they were going to send me an email..

I've yet to get the email, but hopefully it will have the prices to compare with the cost of one in AUD & USD.

As for the riser, and pix above this is getting too big to fit it were i had wanted it, as I plan to have this sitting in the Subaru bezel behind the dash. I plan to have this all as 1 unit for easy removal if needed.

Hey Giuliano, were are u installing the MB?

I finally got the quote - Geez they really slug you on the cable kit. Hell it's cheaper to get the cable kit from the USA.

    Kontron 810200-4500 986LCD-M/mITX $510.00
Kontron 820982 PCI riser – flex 2 slot with arbiter $130.00
    Kontron 826589 Accessory kit for 986lcd-M/mITX $140.00
    Freight $25.00

I'll dump the frieght price and go and pick it up myself. I'm also sure we should be able to get another PCI riser for a lot less.

The prices mentioned are all Australian dollars using the exchange rate of 1 Aus $ = 0.75 USD.

Now to make a decision on this or the Commell-677

    UPDATE

Just got the information from Kontron that they dropped the on-Board TV-Out due to licensing issues with Macrovision.

Ok, Fedex lady brought my Kontron order today.
I bought one of the ADD-LVDS AGP boards. These will work with Intel 845, 55 and 65G chipsets. A little pricey @ 59.00, but you can pick up mainboards with the required chipset for less than 40.00
As soon as Brown brings my Digi-Key order, I will build a cable and power a Fujitsu 22" widescreen.

Can anyone give me the number of the sales rep that you bought your board from? I'm really interested in buying one myself, but Kontron would not return my emails, and when I called a sales rep directly, he said they would only be willing to sell the board to me in quantities of 250 or more. I asked him how other people bought theirs individually, and he said he had never heard of such a thing and that's not how it works. :|

Interesting. When I bought mine, the Sales Engineer told me it was an engineering test sample; at one point, you could buy it from thier website, but apparently not now.

However, I did find it here online, although that appears to be a European sit, they might ship toi the US. High price, though...

Thanks for the info, Dave (and nice setup, by the way). That website is the only distributor that I have seen so far that carries this board... Too bad it's in Europe, though. With overseas shipping, it looks like it'll cost me over $450!

I think I'll go for the Commell LV-677 instead. I started this project with a strict budget in mind, wanting to spend as little as possible. Of course that didn't last long and I found myself wanting the best, most feature packed thing out there. If anything, all this waiting has given me a chance to think over my purchase. I still want a fast system with plenty of I/O, but I'll take this as a sign that I really don't need to spend over $400 for a motherboard with 3x Gbit LAN ports.
