actually thats not a bad price for 850 mb,but thats not why i posted it. smashr2k was wondering how much a gig of flash storage would cost, and the largest i could find was what i posted above.

Should be nice when the price becomes affordable.

Is there any problem with these having a limited number of writes?
    (like compact flash or diskonchip)
if windows is using a swp file it could toast it pretty quick.

    Mach,
That's exactly the problem. People ahve been trying to find a way to make windows read only like you can with linux so you don't wear out the flash.

I agree using windows would burn out a CF pretty quickly.

The flash drive sounds like a great alternative as long as it does not have a limited life likfe CF. Hope someone can confirm.

why dont you just have a data hard drive and put the swap file on that, and run the OS on the CF. (also, store everything else on the hard drive...mp3s, programs, backup of CF..etc)

or you could just disable the swap file and have a lot of ram.

Windows will still constantly read and write from the flash, and if you drive a lot, it'll probably be worn out in a matter of months, if not weeks. That's just how Windows is. You really need to be able to make the filesystem RO if you want to get any mileage out of a flash drive.
