Is there ANY way to hardwire an iPod?

I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with the infamous Delco/Bose stereo also with OnStar. I have been looking into hard wiring an iPod into it for the past 3 days straight trying to find someway to make this work but have been unsuccessful. I really want it hard wired because the FM transmitters seem like junk and wouldn't sound very good. Right now, the stereo sounds great through the AM/FM/ single CD player (after adding 2-12" Massive subs on an old school MTX Thunder amp using the high level inputs from the rear speakers).

The head unit has no AUX or Source button on it. This seems to be the major problem. The auxilary input cables seem to require this. I then thought about replacing the head unit, but ran into other problems: (1) the steering wheel controls wouldn't work (2) the OnStar and finally (3) it's supposedly very bad to replace the head unit since everything is designed as is for the Bose stereo.

Is there any way at all to make this work without ripping out the Bose system?

I know in the subaru, someone came up with a way that actually interupts the audio cables from the CD player adding a switch and a Y portion of cable, to the audio amp section of the stock HU. You then just load a blank disc, and instead of CD music, the sound that comes in over the "Y" cable gets fed to the audio amp.

Not sure if it can be done with the Bose, but it is an idea.
