i also have this circuit in mind for my car. the way it works is that you hook up an ignition source to the acc line and when you shut your car off it senses that, and starts the shut down
Alright boys, I'm almost done with my system, but after finding this. I decided that I need a shutdown circuit for 2 reasons. A: So I don't wear down my battery B: So I can avoid scandisk. For that circuit, you need to push a button to start the timer, right? I was thinking if I choose this circuit, I would attatch a sonalert to my door switch reminding me to push the shutdown button. Is there another schematic or even software that can do this for me? Like if a key isn't pressed in 10 minutes, it automatically shuts itself down (too bad my motherboard isnt ATX). Or perhaps something that notices the amperage in the battery goes down because it isn't being powered by the alternator? What do you guys do? Thanks! My project is going to be so awesome!

I use the circuit (thanks to Oms). It works very well but it won't actually shutdown your computer. It just cuts the power.
It's great if you leave your computer running... or if you just want to get out of the car with your keys for 10 minutes to get some beer or something.

Havent we being through this whole episode os shutdown thing before. You dont need a shutdown card or circuit. Simply turn of scandisk and call it a day. From what i understand WinXP you can now cut PC of without shutting down properly and it still boots up fine. Ofcourse you need to turn scan disk off also.

How do I turn off scandisk?
Goto your run command and type in 'msconfig'. Under the General tab click advanced... its in there.

Whoa! I've never seen this before. I hate to get off topic, but what is this "disable fast shutdown" Could I unclick it and have the pc shutdown faster?Goto your run command and type in 'msconfig'. Under the General tab click advanced... its in there.
Do not disable fast shutdown. Disabling it causes Windows to try to unload each device driver gracefully, instead of just quitting. This causes unexpected results with the system, from lockups at shutdown, to corrupted VMM23.VXD files.

Hi,
Hi i have winxp and you are right you can joust turn it off and it works fine. No sd or any thning. Microsoft gave me 2 copyes of it so e-mail me and i will give u 1, or 1 sail it for $10. It is the full progame. 1 you will need a cd-r so if you dont have a cd-r. I will send u the copy. thx
If you disabled scandisk in 95 (which you could do) and just cut the power to it, it would also appear to shutdown and start back up correctly, but every time you do it you can corrupt whatever your writing to on the drive at the time, just hopefully your not writing to anything your carputer needs to run. Playing mp3s mostly reads stuff anyway, that's why car players have very few problems with that sort of thing.
