I just want to say, sony is crap. I've had 30 or more systems in my various vehicles, and I've heard hundreds more in cars we've installed them in. MB-Quart, JL Audio and Eclipse component speakers are probably the best speakers around, through all price ranges. Infinity? thats almost as bad as polk. Blech. Anyways, car audio is my game, I've heard all of em, if you want a harsh, one sided review, just ask.

Would you really want to buy something called, Xplode? because they really do!

Sony, kennwood, they all suck ROCKFORD FOSGATE. Get a couple of those and line the car with Dynamat. Maybe Alipine and Solo Barics are ok.

Diverging off topic, what the hell is up with car audio? I know Im a clean look (stock) freak, which is probably in the vast minority at this point to the ricemobiles, but !@$, red and silver speakers? and chrome bling bling head units? Yes, I do have a computer in my car, but even in that, Im trying to make it look clean. Are the better brands (named above) more sane in their colour schemings?

First of all, your stereo is what plays the songs, remember what MP3 is for? sound quality is essential. The only problem is, when you have a system like mine, you can't really get away with playing too many mp3s since the sound quality of the compressed recording sucks. I can put a CD into my stereo blindfolded and tell you if it was burned or mass produced.

Second, Dexter172, have you ever heard a good stereo? 'cause rockford fosgate is what the lowest end shops sell, and they only still sell them because 25 years ago when rockford was good, they built a little name for themselves. Rockford hasn't sold a high quality speaker in 10 years.

As for dynamat, that should be essential to anyone who puts a stereo better than stock in their car. The improvement in sound quality is incredible. My personal favorite is "brown bread" by b-quiet. It works better than D-mat xtreme, and its about 1/6th the price.

Are you crazy Rockford subs hit 20hz. The human ear can only detect frequencies of 20 to 20,000 hertz. And Solo barics hit 18hz thats why I said they were good also. The Solo Barics are better than rockford but the rockfords are a close second. It dosen't matter if a speaker goes under 20hz because at that point you cant hear it, thats what subwoofers are designed for to be felt not heard. What CAR speakers are better.

Mp3 are compressed correct but at there lowest compression there near cd quality. Um, what does that mean when a cd is recored its uncompressed meaning even frequencies that human hear or the speaker can produce are still there. Mp3 compress and limit the the frequencie range to that of only what the human ear can hear, saving space. Unless your conducting syponies in your car you why it would matter, you should be paying attention to the road and not the quality of the music.

What you running in your great system. Are you in compititions.

    Don't forget IceGuard too.
I know it isn't designed as sound deadening (meant to be an underlay for roofing felt).

But it is a good old *****umen sheet self adhesive material, thinner than Dynomat, but twice as much on a roll, for half the price, so you can double it up where needed, and still save cash.

what the speaekrs look like i dont care i was gonna hide them away anyway.

avoidage of sony sounds sensible then

ive got lots of different views now mostpeople dont seam to think that amp is bad for the money and im not after anything amazing so i think that will do. but speakers no1 seams to agree on
    from what i gather

6*9 have some bass and decent mid but little high
    tweters ...well duh!
components have decent mid and treble but lack in the old bass a fair bit and better detail

so i guess im still confused

i could get a pair of 6*9s and a pair of tweeters but i couldnt run them off that amp
i could get some different components and live with not too much bass. but its gona cost me more

i think ill have alook around for some other components

oh and in responce t omr dexter...mp3s sound rubish compared to a cd on a nice stereo of any kind. cds dont have many frequencies you cant here because they sample at 44khz which means you get sounds up to 22khz which is prety close to what you can hear anyway. mp3s dont just narrow the frequency band they also take out detail which is how the file sizes drop so much.

oh and a large frequency range of a speaker doesnt make it a good speaker, it wont hurt it being good but it sure as hell doesnt make it good

Trained ears, Couldn't tell between 256kbps and a CD and 320 is greater. Plus why not just download the complete wav if that make you happy thats what i do(42mb or so). And what type of music are you hearing that needs that quality all I really want to do is make the BLOCK shake. Get a bazooka NOS(replica) bottle to look cool.

Oh im sorry i thought subwoofers that hit low frequencies sound (or lack of) better. I was just to tired to point out the 89 sensitivity and 90 for the solo barics. Rockford has one of the loudest most detailed cd receivers out. Like 25rms. I say go with a piar Rockford Fosgate FRC3369.

    Too MUCH!!

You guys are forgetting that this guy wants something to replace his factory speakers. He's not looking to spend a **** load on audiphile equiptment. I still say go with the Sony's because they are a good deal, and yes they do sound good to most people. Go to your local car stereo shop and listen to them. They arent bad at all. I will agree that they are by no means a top quality speaker, but they also dont cost $350 a pair.

If you are looking to get into competitions then you are gonna need about $5,000 for entry level competition system. Most of the guys in Detroit spend about $10k to $15k.

But most of the people on this board do not compete and probably never will. That is why I will still recommend Infinity, Pioneer, Clarion, Alpine, and yes Sony. These are all good companies that produce a speaker that is 10 times better than your factory ones.

As for Rockford...The have won the Midwest Power Slam 4 out of the last 6 years and the Eastcost 3 out of 7. I dont keep track of Westcoast because no one out there does well in Nationals. They are definitely a competition speaker because they WIN competitions. Granted when BestBuy started carrying them, they produced some bottom line speakers...but they still kept their competitons at their best. I have 2 15' DVC, and I absolutely love em. Ive blown out my back window (thats why they are faced up now) and won a local competition for loudest system 4 years ago. But subs dont win competitions, amps and acoustics do...but you still need good subs and speakers.

Lowest end shopps?? EVERY shop sells rockford! Come to Detroit dscustoms, our systems will put yours to shame Basically because we have more drug dealers that spend an exuberant amount of money. MA and Squares are big choices around here.

Anyways, back on topic...if you get a good deal on those Sony's I still say go with them. You will be happy for they are a big step up from what your currently have. Unless you are looking to do some serious sounds in the near future...go with them. For $80 bucks...you wont find anything better unless its used.
