I'm not going to get into the argument of which speakers are the best, but I thought it's might be worth mentioning the mounting locations. This is based on a bit of reading and some experimentation
Small tweaters should go in the dash to allow for cleanest possible sound and best stero perception, Both JL recemend this and so do my experiments.
Mids sould go low down in the doors, I don't know why but it seems to work, and work well. I think it's becasue it makes it sound as it the musics comming from all sides not just in front of you.
Bass speakers go on the rear shelf, this is mainly due to size and the fact that the rear shelf is the biggest pace to put speakers. It's harder to tell where bass comes from, so there location doesn't matter as much as other speakers so put them where they'll fit.
Sub tend to go in the boot (aka trunk) purely due to size, see above notes, on bass speakers.
As I said the above is a combination of reading on JL's site and installing said speaker in the Mini, and I have to say, I've yet to go in a car which sounds better.
And you say people actually pay money for M$ Windows?

Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)
