Wouldn't work at all with my leather seats, though some strategically placed studs in the seat might work. Being on the outside of the seat fabric means I wouldn't come outside to a roasted car.

And I don't know, but I don't think that would work on an EFI vehicle. A seperate stun gun (actually just a trigger coil, storage cap, and oscillator) would probably work as an offense device.

Besides, chicken wire does not sound very comfortable to sit on.
well considering the car is from the 70s, it isnt comfortable even without the chicken wire!

Speaking of bluetooth, there was a cool link that I had come across a while back.

There's a company that sells a unit that is like a bluetooth lock. You can pair it with your phone. When you walk within range of your car it'd unlock your doors.

Damn, wish I could find that link/site. If anyone knows it, please post it up

True nuff! Though, you did lead me to another possible offense device. Of course, I may come outside to a roasted car if that shock ****ed them off enough to set my car ablaze!

My favorite so far is the xenon strobe (think camera flash) with enough time between flashes for thier eyes to start to adjust back to darkness. I'm sure everybody knows how long the image of a camera flash lasts in your vision. Would make it pretty difficult to see enough to steal the stereo (especially after making it difficult to remove.) Not to mention the 120dB siren blasting inches away from your ears. You'd have to either be very determined, or prepared for it to overcome those two assaults.

And yes, nothing would stop them from smashing the xenon light (though they would get a real good shock/burn if they did it with thier hands.) However, by putting the siren in the air ducting, they would have a difficult time locating the source of the siren and getting to it would require quite a bit of dash assembly. All this while waking up neighbors and generally bringing a lot of attention to yourself with the flashing and the blaring!

Of course, the flashes will make for nice clear pictures in the cameras as well!

OK, I am now getting way ahead of myself, but.... I have an Xbox wireless controller with a bluetooth connection for (at least) a wireless headset. And of course, bluetooth headsets themselves are fairly cheap.

Sparkfun also has some (pricey) bluetooth radios. http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/cat...p?cPath=16_115

Perhaps hacking one of these into the micro? Bluetooth supports additional layers of security (authentication) but a cheap and simple hack might be to just use the headset profile. See, when you dial something on your phone handset, the tones are generated in the headset. By simply decoding the DTMF tones (you can even buy a chip to do it for you... CD22204E is one) you can use your phone to enter a passcode in to do whatever you wanted.

The Xbox controller cost me about $24, I see BT headsets all the time for <$30.

LOL....I just tried pairing that xbox controller to my cell phone with the default 0000 passcode and it worked with no problem. I'll have to try the headset though. Would be extra geeky carrying around an XBox controller for a BT headset for your phone!!

    ok, here it is:
    http://www.rfsolutions.co.uk/acatalo...ontroller.html

That might be something that could work with your mcu, or you could use it to auto arm and disarm your system when you approach/leave your car.

Hmm...it "paired" but wouldn't connect. Device info says "audio device" instead of headset or handsfree profiles. AFAIK, those are the only 2 profiles my phone supports. Oh well, that is probably handled in the micro of the controller itself, as well as the pairing code (don't like the default 0000) I may have to crack into it. It doesn't work with my Xbox anyway.

Either you are at work, stay up late on your own, or you're just plain a night owl

Man, why were you up all night? I'm up because I'm working As far as I know we're on the same time zone

Let me guess: you're staying up all night to watch your car? lol, jk
