I may be able to put a list together and bring it to the installers to do it for me, but where is the fun in that?

The siren output is going to be one of the triggers. I amy skip the additional switches now that I see some of the features that are built in (but disabled) to this alarm. Definitely a few things are getting rearranged in my plan, now.

BTW, you mentioned that I could get a two way remote for $60. Is this a seperate module as well as the remote? It doesn't look like from the manual that two-way IS built in. Of course, if I am monitoring all the signals the extra module would be monitoring, I might be able to handle that part my self (via the boost mobile phone sending SMS to my main cell phone.)

Definitely MUCH more information to work with now. Thank you so much for your help!

From what I have seen, the only difference seems to be the remote and the antenna with an upgrade to the alarms software. I do know that there is also remote paging modules available (from audiovox) that acts like OnStar (TM). You would just have to figure out how to integrate it yourself since it is not a audiovox alarm.

    Thanks again,

I know alot about the system because I have the same system in my vehicle Four buttons is the most you will find on any aftermarket remote. Also, each manufacturer uses different frequencies and codes for security. I do know that if you turn code hopping "off" (everytime you press a button to transmit, the security code changes in sync with transmitter and receiver), you could probably build a device like a LCD remote or something to transmit on the same frequency and have the receiver learn the new "remote". I have replaced customers three button (lock/unlock, rem start, trunk) remotes with four button (separate luck/unlock like yours) for different models that didn't offer four button remotes.

Also, I could check tomorrow, but I think I paid $150 for my bitwriter 5 years ago. All I do is buy the upgrade chip ($10) for the newer software models.

If somebody breaks into your car and can't get away with your equipment most of the time they will just destroy it out of frustration, I've seen people do some crazy jobs of securing their equipment only to get in their car and see their subwoofer has been stabbed repeatedly with a screwdriver. Once somebody is in your car, there is really nothing you can do to save your stuff.

In my mind the most important aspect of keeping your stuff secure is quite simply keeping people out. Keep a stock exterior appearance, have a ridiculously loud car alarm with lights and flamethrowers, toxic gas release, self destruct, whatever you can dream up.

If that fails all you can really do is ID the thieves and hope they get busted, this is where your video system would come into play. Two way alarms are nice for knowing when somebody dinged your car with their door or when some kid hit your car with a soccer ball, but if my alarm goes off and I see somebody breaking into my car I'd rather just replace and rebuild than risk my life over an entertainment system.

Just to be goofy for a moment in my own thread. How about a flip down stereo cover. When they flip it up, I had removed the stereo and put a pneumatic boxing glove...like in the cartoons? Might even end up with some gold teeth that way! Might even be profitable for me!

    Ok, J/K...off to work

how about this for an alarm setup. Upon triggering the alarm the car fills with thick foam Good luck ripping a sub out when your fighting with an endless supply of foam! Mwuahahahha

In reality as its been said, if you make it hard for them then they will just destroy the equip. Best step is to have an alarm thats so annoying no one would bother. 12 sirens blasting at 120+dB and a freaking strobe light makes things uncomfortabe fast. Course, if someone truly wants your gear and they have the conviction you aren't going to stop them.

I thought about recording and all that but passed on it. I'll get a nice paging alarm setup, add a few more sirens, Secure my equipment and throw a trunk monkey in the back

    MRVJ245,

Of course, then, I need to find a way to keep the pitbull watered, fed, **** and ****ed. Not to mention air conditioned and heated. (Can't have PETA called on me!) Of course, with my own microcontroller...

Actually, I do have a huge boxer who is quite aggressive towards unknown people. And he IS a major PIMA with his stubbornness and shannanigans.

Maybe I could just keep him the trunk!!! Have the back seats drop down! Now just to write my code! My own DIY 'monkey in the trunk.' I might have to write an instructable!

    Damn, spoonraker! Fookin' crazy!

A comment on there did give me an idea, though. If I can find extra space in my carpc and screen, I could install one of those personal panic alarms in it. It would go off after being disconnected from the constant 12V for a certain amount of time (like 20/30 seconds) without being disabled somehow. Imagine the look on thier faces when they sneak out of my car after jacking it, trying to be all stealthy in thier get away and suddenly WAH WAH WAH!! Tha would attract ALOT of attention! And if the cops were coming around the corner, they couldn't really act like they weren't doing anything wrong!

And with the video system, I would get to see that look on thier faces! Might find my system smashed to hell all over the street, but at least THEY didn't get it either!
