Ideas on hardening trunk lid from exterior prying or lock cylinder pulling

I posted this over at "the12volt.com" to for some of the Pro installers over there but I didn't want to discount anyone here.

I searched and read a bunch last night on this forum but to no avail.

With my CarPC and Mobile Router now in the trunk of my Avalon, I'd like to secure the trunk lid a bit more.

The OEM lock is controlled via manual cable release from the handle pull on the floor next to the driver's seat.

If my car was broken into, easy access to the trunk would be possible via the trunk release cable. Even if the valet lock was locked, I think the cable could be pulled with a small pry-bar and pliers.

Although a novice, I was not able to easily remove the back seat back from inside the car when I was running wire to the trunk. So I think for a thief, getting into the trunk that way is a no-go if timing is crucial.

I'd like to add a 2 locks inside my trunk (1 per side) to secure the lid to the rear quarters. Maybe a couple of solenoids??

If anyone has hardened a trunk lid from exterior entry via prying or popping the lock cylinder, I'd love to hear your ideas.

    Thanks,

    Jim

Here in Australia they weld Lockwood Locks into the boot lid!

but they also have a security lock which grabs like **** to a blanket, they say its pry proof and since its not a normal lock cannot be pulled...I know, someone tried it on my car to get at my AMP's, they busted the lock with a chisel and ended up getting caught....damn i wish it was me

I have installed "hood locks" for jeeps (that don't offer a remote latch pull). You could use one of those and mount the lock cylinder inside the passenger compartment somewhere.

    MRVJ245,

Thanks for the tip. I looked up Lockwood Locks and see nothing designed for autos. Must have been a residential or commercial lock that was welded to your boot lid. Think I'll keep looking. I want something I can bolt-in from the inside of the trunk (boot). Thanks.

    extremeproaudio,

Thanks for your tip. I'm thinking of something that is electrically controlled. Maybe I shouldn't be though. Perhaps I should be thinking of something that is manually controlled and with the control hidden. That way, I don't have to rely on power to control it should I have my DC system fail.
