Lightbulb What USB/HUB/DVD you use on your Commell LV-677

    Hey all,

I am building my 2nd Gen Car PC as we speak. I have a lot of stuff already here but i have some problems with my USB Hub and USB-DVD. Is it a good idea to all Commell LV-677 Users to show which brands and types of hardware they use. Maybe this will solve some compatibility issues for people. I`ll start here with my setup:

    • Case: Voom PC Black
    • PSU: M2-ATX (with changed capacitor)
    • Mobo: Commell LV-677
    • CPU: Intel C2D Mobile T5500 1,66GHz
    • Mem: Kingston DDR2 512MB (Single Channel)
    • HDD: Seagate 80GB S-ATA
    • Wlan: Intel Mini-PCI 2915ABG

    USB Devices:

    • 1 Sitecom Active USB Cable to the Glovebox
    • 1 D-Link DUB-H7 7port Hub connected to the Active USB Cable in the Glovebox
    • 1 Lilliput 809 8inch TouchScreen conected to the HUB (for Testing, Car has Lilliput 609)
    • 1 LiteOn SLW-831S Connected via USB in a SlimLine DVD Enclosure (Ebay, not expensive) in Glovebox
    • 1 MSI Bluetooth Card (MS-6968) connected to USB (Soldered USB Cable to it)
Al things work fine except all the USB stuff in the front of the car. When i have the DVD drive connected to the CarPC it is correct recognised by the bios but most of the times when in Windows it keeps making initialization sounds en isn`t recognised by windows at all, or incorrect.

The DUB-H7 is already issued for RMA because i honestly believe this one was faulty. Even without the Active USB cable attached)

The DVD Drive and the HUB were powered both with a separate 5V connection from switched ignition.

I also have the DUB-H7 and have yet to experience problems with it. Its a little big size-wise so I also have an AOC 4 port mini urb hub for a tiny compartment in the car. I also have the Trendnet 54Mbps wireless Usb 2.0 adapter.

I'm currently in the process of putting together a TV to PC setup through antennas and the ADS Tech MiniTV Usb adapter.

On a side note, I have an important question that I would like answered preferrably before I send back my hard drive. How did you power your SATA drive with the M2-ATX? External enclosure connected through USB?

Well, the Sata drive is in my Voom PC case and powered directly from my M2-ATX with a Molex > Sata converter cable. Just a standard one. I don`t have my DUB-H7 anymore. It was credited by the company i bought because it was defective ( i think). I now have a Firewire SlimLine DVD SlitIn case with a Pioneer Drive in it. Hooked via a 4,5m HQ Firewire Cable. It works flawlessly and it even doesn`t need external power. I Love it and can recommend it to anyone. It`s also much faster during Boot cause it doesn`t need to detect teh USB Drive.

Oh man, thanks for the tip. I didn't know there was an adapter for Molex to SATA connversion. I was getting ready to send my SATA drive back. That would have sucked. Thanks again.

They usually come free when you purchase a normal (i.e. for in a home pc) motherboard. I had several that had an onboard Sata chipset where i got 1 or 2 of those.

Have you had your system in your car already? I have an anoying background noise coming from my sound card over my speakers. It`s really annoying and is linear with the position of the gas pedal. When i press the pedal the high frequent noise also goes up. . Have to figure out where it comes from....
