I severely doubt that they'll work. LCD displays need hardware access to the printer port (hence why there'd LCD problems under NT/2k/XP)

All USB devices by nature are software driven.

i was hoping to do the some.. put a hub in the dash and run a parallel for the LCD, a USB sound source, and a USB keyboard.

Anyway - i would think that USB software would emulate a LPT port. And you could just point the plugin there.

    anyone using one?

Have a look at this site I havn't used these chips but I've been thinking about using them as they seem a pretty cheap way to add more ports.

Throught work I've done a fair bit of interfacing to LPT & Serial ports and I've got most things to work with USB adaptor, but that's under Linux.

You can get round the writing to the port problem by using a dot matrix printer driver to interface to the port, althought you have to tie the busy pin to ground to fake the handshaking.
And you say people actually pay money for M$ Windows?

I have a USB->Serial Adapter and maybe you could plug that into a Serial->Parallel Adapter.

    ugh, that sounds messy!

it should work, but hardware access like CrazyLittle will be a problem. Unless the USB software drivers emulate the hardware port? is that possible?

that usb thing looks okay, but all it really is doing is changing the connector, you are still using the parrallel port/serial port.

but im curious about how you said using a dotmatrix printer driver. does this work properly? and is this for win2k/xp ?

caus right now im using a port95 driver, which gives direct hardware access, but lortys dont work with it and lcdcentre only works on first 2 lines. but using program lcdsmartie it works fine.

id really like to get lorts working in 2k/xp though, so have you tested that?
