    8 gauge wire BIG!?

    In some other threads I read it said to use a relay so I could use a regular switch so I got one...now I am looking at this relay with four prongs and little holes I'm assuming the wires go there but my 8 guage wire is a little big to fit in that whole! how do I attach this thick *** wire to this thing...and also does anyone know a site that shows what is what, I don't know what end to hook up to what prong ect...

    I know this kinda stuff is old hat to everyone, but thanks for the reply allenruble! At first I wasn't to excited about doing all the wiring to remotly turn on my computer, but now I don't feel so bad about it. Does anyone here know of any good books that deal with this sort of beginner electronics?
    sv24, 733mhz celeron, 80gig hd, 5.6" MA Audio tft, x10 remote, RF Keyboard.

    Just something.. use the second diagram there, it means that you won't need a fuse on your remote power on line.. thisis because even if the wire does break, or get chopped, it is at GND anyway, so it doesn't matter.. (well, it does matter, but can't light a fire..)

    allenruble: what is the name of the first thing you showed me?

    Also, what are the things called you attach to the battery and then you can attach wires to them?

    Spade lugs. But don't worry, they are easy to find in any Radio Shack, electronics store, or hardware store.

    Lugs. There are various kinds. Any car audio shop will know what you're talking about.

    ....If they ground line gets chopped, then its of no immediate consequence, but it could arc to the closest ground, and if any of the 5 wires that aren't ground get cut, they will cause immediate problems. ALWAYS use a fuse.
