I did a search but could not find my answer. I have a backup camera, and know how to hook it up to my Xenarc 700tsv, but how do I make it so that it comes on automatically when I put the car in reverse. I have heard people power the camera to the reverse lights. I would like to be able to turn the camera on while I am driving though. So how can I get it to overide the computer input when it is in reverse, and also be able to switch it on whenever I want? Any help would be appreciated.

There are video switches that come with a reverse toggle switch that gets tripped by your shift knob.

Thanks for the help. I am not sure if it will work for my application however, because I also want to be able to use the camera while driving and not only in reverse. Any tips?
Well put the power to the camera on a toggle switch.
When the switch is flipped up, a constant power line goes to the camera meaning the camera turns on.
When the switch is flipped down the power comes from the switch thing in the gear knob. If the gear is in reverse, then the power goes through and the camera is on. If the gear is not in reverse then the camera is off.
If the switch is flipped up meaning always on it won't matter what gear you put it in. Meaning if the switch is doen and you are driving, then you flip up the switch the camera will go on.

get a 3 way senter off switch
wire the center leg to teh camera, one leg to the reverse ligths, ther other leg to +12v
that works too. Cheaper then getting that gear gizmo too.
