I'm sure its been done before...?

I am puttin my laptop in my car and instead of making my own buttons for winamp and all, I was thinkin of using a touch pad mouse. I was gonna flush mount it down where my shifter is. Has this been done way too many times, and its gonna be unoriginal? I was just thinkin it would be cool cause I would be able to control much more stuff on the computer!

I'm doing that very same thing in my Trans Am.... was considering flush mounting my touchpad into the console, but I'm glad I haven't yet. In my personal experience, it's much too difficult to operate Winamp while driving (we're talking simple things like changing songs, fast forwarding, volume changes, etc... )... and computer operation is out of the question while in motion. I've decided to use it as a second method of control, with a remote or touchscreen as the primary method. Just my two cents.....

Agreed. I dont use mine too much, cept when I cant find the right remote (have 7 now). But it is much better than any mouse with a ball(or track ball) do to the fact that every bump you hit makes it move. I use the touchpad to hover over the next button on Winamp...just tap to go to the next song.

Unless you get a remote that will take care of moving the mouse around (even still its hard to do with a remote)...I would go with a touchpad.

Heh, don't not do something because its "not original." Do what ever works for you . And I have my touchpad mounted between the steering coloum and the dashboard. Dyed black it doesnt look too out of place.

I am guessing since he drives a 4x4 its the low gearing shifter and the 4x4 engage/disengage...... must be like driving a truck with all the gear combinations!!!

    4wd shifter

Why does it look like you have both a standard and automatic transmission in your car?
Toyota 4Runner is one of a few trucks left to still have a manual 4wd shifter option. I get it all the time. For off-road enthusiests, you want complete control over your 4wd. Those "automatic" 4wd systems are great for winter snow and slippery-road conditions because you dont have to think, but when you get down and dirty in a New Orleans swamp, manual is the best way to go.
