Ok, I have been on the board for a while now. I have previously had a running carpc in my 91 mr2. I have since sold the EPIA 800 board. I still have the rest of the system though. Here is my issue. I need something with more speed. The EPIA clocked in at a supposed 800mhz but tests confirmed a 397mhz speed.
Here is what I am looking at wanting to be able to do. I plan to run road runner with a decent skin (flash), I have a USB GPS module and have iGuidance, onboard monitoring of my AEM EMS setup is a plus (takes a serial connection), of course video's and mp3's, possible am/fm usb tuner.
I know that sounds alot like a typical carpc list but I want it to do it well. I am looking at a AMD semperon 2800+ with motherboard and at least 512MB ram. Should this be a decent setup? I do have a DS-ATX psu now and if I did my research right it should hold that setup just fine.
Basically I do not want to spend more than about $150 on the cpu, mobo, ram and the one i have laid out with the 2800+, mobo, and 512M ram is like $110 shipped from newegg. Any thoughts on this? I am ready to get back in the game.
I've got a similar desktop (MicroATX/Barton 2500+) setup and my M2-ATX handles it fine, so with your DSATX it should be no sweat. If you slow down the FSB you can underclock your Sempron to reduce wattage, but with your DSATX that probably won't be necessary. Note that underclocking your CPU/FSB also reduces heat output.
