Not that we'd put these systems in a car, I just felt like showing the radical gap.</STRONG>

The reason for this is bc the Clarion autoPC needs to match only 10 - 20 words, not >5000 or even more words. It has also a much simpler, low level algorithm.

This is almost true. The autoPC matches more than 10-20 words. You can add custom commands actually, and you can store I believe at least 99 contacts with vr calling. Every piece of software that is loaded on has it's own set of voice commands as well. So the list can grow extensively. I had the cell phone cradle and I could place a phone call by merely saying "AutPC, call Andy" 'Andy' would be a name in the address folder. It's better than looking up the number and dailing

does the clarion have select song features? i think we forgot to mention that, the program we (kevmo) wrote does select song, select artist, and some other nifty features. well yea there you have it, i think i'd rather build my own then buy one anyways, much cooler and l33t

mellman: I totally agree with you, and no it doesn't have select song feature (at least the model I owned didn't). Your software looks awesome. I also really glad you support me on the VR thing, go you! I have a 266p2 in my car, how do you think that will run with your plug in? Also...another thing about processor power and VR, I had a IBM aptive with a 100p1 and it came with VR program installed that worked great!

lol....ooohh mine. I leave for couple hrs and here goes jshrieve....take a chil pill ok.

As for whether or not Charles Enwesi can be convinced... who really cares?! If he wants to pretend it can't be done, then let him think that! It's only him that loses out.
Do you really think for a minute i dont know what i am talking about???? I want you to listen to the last post JamesB posted and i quote
Although there currently is no _TRUE_ VR (we still lack a good working definition of TRUE) .. we have software emulation that today competes with the DSP hardware of tomorrow .. as the two are eventually married into one design, we will see leaps and bounds of progress .. for example .. a universal VR module (ie. no training)

Let's face it folks .. you still have to train your VR software .. and those of us who have done so extensively know just how much of a pain in the *** it is! (Who really wants to read war and peace aloud to a computer anyways?)
Thanks JamesB for makeing sure ppl REALIZE this before they jump in. Kevmo and Mellman99 failed to mentioned those two things and few other things..... Lets be for real for a minute and i want some numbers now.... How many pple in here really have VR?? I dont want this to really turn into a VR war but for ppl to go around calling me names or what not, i just laugh at them sometimes. Do you guys really think i started this computer stuff this month/year/yesterday that i really dont know what i am talking about.

BTW jshrieve i couldn't help but notice your sig....

Car: 1993 Nissan Maxima, Black Emerald
Now if VR really works, why do you still have the mouse/keyboard/credit card sized IR remote. And i will take it since u have the CCR, that u have either IRman/home made version. I really dont know if u have VR installed but from ur statements i am thinkin u have it installed, if you dont then disregard this statements.

It never ceases to amaze me just how much charles is insisting on being ignorant. Obviously you want multiple methods of control. There actually ARE places where i am just as happy to press the next button on my remote than say "Computer, [pause 4 seconds], next track" VR is part of the system, not the entire system. I mainly use mine for selecting songs, something that no other technology can do as well. Sure, it's not perfect yet, but VR is here, and there are plenty of us who use it quite often.

hey charles, do you have aim? cuz i think this would be a much faster argument in realtime ....

Anyway, about me not mentioning "Real VR", read one of my last posts. Also, what is your definition of "Real VR"? Do you mean that the computer hears what you say, comprehends, puts together a thought, and replies like a real human? Because of course then, its not real VR. But if you mean its able to recognize certain voice commands, thus "Voice recognition", then in a way it is real VR. Just throwing a thought out.
