bit of a wierd one but amps/power

ok i have an amp and sub that was using in a mates car, i now have it back and just wanna test it all..

i have a car battery charger that i found in the garage (new)

i linked it up crossed the rem with the 12v line, but it cuts out into the protection...

i tried various things i.e taking the black negative from charger out of the ground (on amp) and then linking a power capable cable from that too a radiator, a skrew into the skirting metal on my wooden window etc

and into a the ground pin on a plug socket into a wall...

one attempt onto metal contact i got a bit of power untill i let go then it went back to the protection cut off...

can anyone shed some light onto this for me please

Most battery chargers can't put out enough stable current if the amp is actually pushed.

are you saying that you wired up a power cable from the ground cable to the radiator of your car? what are you talking about with skirts?

and into a plug socket into a wall...

HU?!!!?!?!?! Are you saying that you plugged in your amplifier to the wall socket?!

Perhaps if you can clean up your post to where it's understandable I'd be able to help more.

Im pretty sure it goes into protection because there is not enough amperage through the battery charger. Have you tried it through your car battery?

always remember that electronic circuits rely on keeping the smoke inside the box. If you are hooking up a ground through the radiator and even up to a wall socket ground- that smoke is just beggin to be released.

for testing, you should be able to hook up the ground lead to the negative battery, the positive to the positive, and remote to positive to turn it on. No exotic grounds needed. Like they said before me, use a battery not a charger. A lawnmower battery or motorcycle battery should also work so long as it is a 12v.

I was thinking...maybe he's refering to the heat sink on the amplifier as the radiator?

even still, that's an incredibly strange way to go about doing it.

no no no, sorry it's not in a car now, this is in my room hahaha..

yeah we have a battery in the garage i will get it in tomorrow
i can't be bothered to move of lift it all about now i put the sub back into my cupboard an tidyed up ...

it was so i can get power into the amp n test it all...

The sub and amp WERE in the car, they were removed a couple days ago by someone else...

i wanted to test it/see what it's like on my soundsystem

but i couldnt get it to power correctly...

but tomorrow i shall try the car battery i have in the garage..

all this testing is IN MY ROOOMMMM not a car now...
