    Tv Antenna?

Ok, I know the topic has been discussed ad nauseum. I did a search and read somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 billion posts (give or take 1.999 billion) about in-car tv antennas, dating all the way back to 2003. It seems though that the topic hasn't been discussed lately, so I wanted to see if since time has passed, and since there are certainly new users joining the forums all the time, if someone out there can now recommend a decent car tv antenna?

I'm in the US, and yes I know that no matter what, the signal quality will be mediocre at best, and even worse than that when the car is moving. With that being said, I am just wondering if people have testimonials to what works well, semi-well, not very well, garbage, etc. etc...

    Many thanks in advance,
    Nola

(By the way... it's looking like I would go with a USB PVR type of unit for the tuner itself, but even if the antennas you've used wouldn't work with that, tell me about them anyway... I'm not settled fully yet on the TV setup).

Well I found that with my computer, Just a coaxle in on my video card is all I needed. I hooked up a pair of rabbit ears and away it went. The antenna quality was worse for those units with their own antenna. So if one has a coaxle in so you can feed it an antenna, then a run of the mill antenna would be best. It will be big though, and of course in the car, it will look funny.

Although if you are not against looking funny, then why not get a Dish Network Satellite hooked up to your car. It moves with your car so you are almost never out of reception. And the geek factor is a big plus.

Hi Nola, I've used two different types of tv tuners and both were garbage. With that being said, I use a slingbox. It would would work out great for you because you have free wi-fi in your city right? If so and you have cable or sat then this is the best way to go.

    Hey guys,

@2k1: I definitely am not looking for beauty, that's for sure, just decent reception. So the coaxial to rabbit ears may be a good idea. I'd love to get one of those car satellite receivers... too bad they cost more money than I have ever had at one time!

@xgc: we SUPPOSEDLY have a free blanket of Wi-Fi here in New Orleans, but I gotta tell you.. it SUCKS! I mean, the whole idea behind implementing it was awesome, and everyone thought it was a great idea. Too bad you can literally get a signal in about 20% of New Orleans, and with that, it's no more than one bar! Pretty bad. It literally may as well not be there at all. Anyway, about Slingbox... I actually use Orb connected to my home Media Center PC, which accomplishes relatively the same thing. So when I DO have a Wi-Fi connection, I will certainly be using that.

    Thanks for you replies.

    Anyone else?

Hi Nola, I'm sorry to hear about the wi-fi that does suck. I forgot to mention I used two types of win-tv tuners(one of which had a fm tuner) and a old phillips with a fm tuner built in. They are in one of my parts boxes lol..

So the usb unit itself is ok when hooked up inside the house, right? It's just in the car with a crappy antenna that it's garbage I take it...
