    Question dvd rom power problems???!!!!???

hi, i'm fairly new to this
for power i'm using m2 atx 160w power supply, andhave everything running fine except the dvd rom.
at first i installed a toshiba dvd rom from a laptop but it didn't eject, but worked fine in the house pc. so i upgraded from the m1 atx to the m2 atx with no joy, the lights came on but the drive didn't want to know.
so i bought a slim line sony laptop drive. this ejects and xp sees the drive but as a cd drive not a dvd drive. i've checked for driver updates but there are none. oh and i'm using a usb to ide converter which plugs strait in to my usb hub. it isnt the hub becuse my touchscreen and gps is working fine.

Try playing a DVD, sometimes Windows doesnt correctly recognise the drive, and says CD, while it is actually a DVD drive

sounds like the dreaded power problem. How are you powering the drive?
