    Question extend a PCI slot?

Phew... been awhile since I've posted... can never get away from this forum...anyways...

Is it possible to extend a PCI slot? Like take a PCI riser card and take off the female connector and extend it say... a coupe feet with cabling? Or would you just loose signal loss too quickly?

I'm wondering if I could have a PCI card outside my carputer box because it's too small.... and just store it somewhere else?

    Thanks for any help.

I've seen flexible extenders that are under 6", but I cant say that ive seen longer (i know the pci spec doesnt take 2ft into account ). But its definately worth a shot (as the ide spec is 18" max, and we've seen 10+ feet).

    Take a look at these:

    http://www.cofan-usa.com/risercards/pciseries.htm

You're interested in PCI1-C. These guys are local to me so I actually went to their office to pick mine up and thus save on shipping and when I saw the one with the cable I asked him if it was regular IDE cable and he said yes (I didn't bother to count the pins, but from the picture it looks standard). I asked him if they could be replaced with longer cables and he also said yes, but we didn't discuss posible lenghts, but since he was trying to sell it to me I'm sure he would have said it worked with cable over a hundred yards if need be. Damned comission salespeople.

If you want to order one or two from them let me know how much they quote you because when I ordered mine they wanted to jack me up with a $15 per card but $20 S&H per card!

Note to all comission salespeople: Don't mean to offend anyone. Heck, I used to sell on comission too.

Maybe I'm bass ackwards, but it looks like all the pci riser cards I've seen would point out the wrong way with the VIA EPIA/EDEN Boards.

Can anyone elaborate on this, or link to a site that would have the proper exit?

    Thanks!

On the epia, most standard right angle risers would put the pci card on top of the processor, but he was talking about getting one with a length of wire between the riser and the pins that plug into the pci on the motherboard, so it could be mounted any which way.

Someone recently posted a link for a place to get some really nice looking ones.. but I can't remember where

If you search for "riser pci" and sort through it I'm sure you'll find it

The post was made this week!
