I have a plan for an DIN sized face plate control panel (if not a whole din sized EPIA based PC).
I have an idea where I can mount a laptop slot DVD in a DIN sized box, slightly recessed into the dash, and then build a flip down/slide down (haven't exactley decided yet) panel that will hide it. When flipped/slid down, it would reveal a Winamp serial button array, and a 2 line LCD, and the infrared remote sensor or my IRA.
What I'm trying to locate is a small project box, orjroughty the width/height of a DIN removeable front from a car stereo. Depth isn't vitally important, because using the slot DVD I would be able to set it quite well back.
If I go for the Flip down method with a consealed push or magnetic catch, I plan to have it rotate on hollow tubular hinge pins, this would allow all the wiring to be either routed back into the PC, or into the blank case behind it, and through to the PC that way. Also when closed they would be no clue that anything was there at all.
I'm adding a very rough sketch below to illustrate what I mean.
With the Character LCD and buttons on fold down panel, it would be easier to fit them in, than trying to squeeze them all under a Slim CD/DVD.
just need to find a project box now. Any suggestion, preferably UK, and part no's if you have any.
