Anyone still running with Pentium 3?

just wanted to know if its still doable, my friend gave me a decent computer that he no longer needed, its a P3 with an NVIDIA 32mb graphics card, 80gb hdd, 1 gb of ram.. would it be sufficient as my first carpc build?

More than enough. Well, if it is faster than 600mhz.
But, it also depend on what you want to do with your carPC.
I'm doing fine with gps, winamp/movie (divx) fine in my Supra setup.

I was running a P3-1Ghz, until I upgraded last month. It was fine for music and navigation. I didn't run a frontend.

I still run a P3 for my main and car computer. Yes, it will be more than enough for a CarPC.

Heh, the processor in my desktop is only slightly newer than a P3 (AXP 2100), and the car pc is totally a P3 (933mhz). Like was mentioned before, so long as you're not trying to get crazy with it (in terms of what you want to process simultaneously) it's up to the task.

Edit: Also scary to think that my first carpc was a blazing fast 133mhz.

Edit2: Also, I've never run a front end, but i can't imagine it'd be that processor intensive (woo for running headless).

Haha, my first system was a 486.

    Then a P60

    Then a P233 w/ MMX

    Then an AMD k-2 500

    Now a P3 933.

well as long as having nav on while playing music won't affect much then i guess i can start my project soon as i get the other parts

    and here's the specs:
    dell dimension 4100
    -p3 996 mhz
    -1.0 gb of ram
    -nvida geforce2 ultra 64 mb
    -80 GB HDD

only thing it needs i guess is a wireless pci-card so i can hook up to my house when i park, usb 2.0 pci-card for usb 2.0 devices, and it should be good
