    Jeep Compass in dash questions

I was thinking about adding a computer to my Jeep compass, mainly for the DVD navigation, as I would want to run both USA and Europe maps. I was looking at the t3 hardware only version, but I don't think my Jeep is dual din. Is it, or can I "make" it?

What would you recommend for a newbie at this? I was thinking of also adding bluetooth for the phone, the gps, 3g card and wifi.

How does it connect to my Boston A. sound system installed currently in the car?

To answer one of your questions, the radio opening in the dash of my 2000 Wrangler is 1.5-DIN. A 2-DIN HU won't fit without dashboard modification, but a 1-DIN unit will fit with a readily-available adapter, or there are a couple (not many) aftermarket 1.5-DIN units out there.

I'm not sure what the Compass can accommodate; the simple way would be to tell Crutchfield what you have, and see what they offer that fits, and go from there.

As for connecting to an existing sound system, and ye shall find.

But I was wondering what if I got the front faceplate for the jeep navigation?
Is that dual din? or could I sand it down to make it dual din?

I don't know what it is you're asking. The front faceplate for what? Is what dual-DIN?

And of course, you can fabricate anything you want for your dash, if you've got the time and talent (or $$$).

The jeep compass has optional navigation system REC Navigation system. I can buy the front plate for that. I was wondering if the REC navigation system is dual din. Cause if it is, I can just buy the front faceplate (the whole front panel) instead of having to make my own.

After googling for details, I can't find anything related to the size of your REC thingy. My recommendation is to ask the dealer or pick up a book, since there doesn't seem to be anything (yet) on the web.

Or your could measure it yourself: according to Wikipedia, 1 DIN is 50mm in height, or ~1.97 inches. Measure the available area in your dash, or pull off the facia over the stereo/climate control part of the dash (if there is one, I'm not familiar with your model), and measure inside.

The REC dash bezel is the same for Compass as the Dodge Caliber. It is said to be a 2DIN. Google for Caliber owners forums, many talk about changing to an aftermarket 2din radio. Some good pictures and descriptions of how to remove dash parts ect. Most of the interior is a straight swap between Compass / Patroit / Caliber.
