    VIA EPIA no power

    Hey guys.

I need a little help. I'm at a bit of a loss here with my VIA EPIA MII10k. I just got it 2 days ago. Brand new.

Yesterday I plugged it into an ordinary box powersupply, touched the PWR switch pins with a screwdriver, and it didn't turn on. Tried a different PSU, same thing.

How can I tell that the motherboard has power. And is there something special with these motherboards (ie jumper settings) you have to change to get them to turn on? I really hope the thing is not simply dead.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

No help at all? Going to try to see if it's being grounded somehow.

Just hoping your PSU is turned on. Check the plug from wall to the PCU and then the rocker switch on the back.

There is nothing special about the epia boards. But if it was faulty, usually it is semi faulty. Meaning the fan will spin and not turn on, or maybe just beep.

Make sure you check the cmos jumper. Sometimes they are placed on clear for storage and shipping to keep the battery like new. Make sure it is on normal, and not clear.

Remove RAM and any cards, connectors, etc. you might have plugged in. Does it beep ?

Thank you Toaster. It was the CMOS jumper, or a lack of one that was the problem.

Popped a jumper in, and it turned on without a hitch.

Now I have another issue. It turns on, but it tells me that I've got a new processor and that CMOS defaults are loaded. It comes up every time I start the computer and I have no keyboard response to go into the BIOS setup. Keyboards lights flashes when computer turns on, on the 2 keyboards I tried. It just sort of freezes at that message. Any ideas?

Oh and of course. I can't find a battery on this thing.

This is where your battery should go:

If it's not in there your BIOS won't be able to store data if the AC is gone.

Oh yes. Of course. Under the card reader.

Taking a look at the battery, and it's reading 2.3V. So it's not dead. Behaviour is the same with the battery in or out. Just goes to the CMOS checksum error screen and freezes. Reset button works, no beep codes. Still scratching my head over this one.

Tried a USB keyboard instead of a PS/2 keyboard, and could go into BIOS settings finally to save settings. Looks like this thing has bad PS/2 ports on it. Going to try a serial to PS/2 adapter to see if I can still use the crappy keyboard. The USB one is my Logitech G15, which I can't be carrying around with me.

    2.3V out of 3V ----> dead!
