APC serial cable pinouts

I just got done talking with APC support. They told me that a plain jane serial cable won't work for connecting the UPS to my computer. The guy did reveal though, that the only difference between a regular cable and the APC propreitary cables is the pinout. Does anyone know what I'd have to do to convert my regular serial cable to a APC UPS cable?

Problem is, those don't make sense to me. I know enough to cut and splice wires, but that's about it. IF someone could tell me which pin on the PC side goes to which pin on the UPS side, that would really help.

Here is the quote on how to make that cable:

The above diagram indicates that Pin #5 on the PC serial port should be connected directly to pin 4 on the UPS side, pin 8 to pin 2, pin 4 to pin 1, and pin 1 to pin 5. In addition, pins 5 and 8 on the same side (the UPS side) have a 10k ohm (10,000 ohm) resistor connected between them. This resistor serves to pull the voltage on this non-RS-232 output high until an actual low voltage is generated by a low battery condition

You can also check with Microsoft

And putting a resistor inside of the cable is not a problem.
