We are really creating a MP3 equipped car radio/CD but need to know how the users actually use their MP3 stuff. What functions would be important, i.e FF, REV, Scan, Shuffle, etc? What information should be displayed, i.e.,track number only, title, artist, etc.? What type of file/folder structure should be included, i.e flat file format with random play? Give us some idea of the minimal functionlity and feature set AND your wish list. Reply and your thoughts will be factored into the design process for new MP3 equipped car CD radios

How about preset EQ levels? Like pop, rock, r&b, classical, etc.
Also, how about autoscan of mp3 CD's

I would like to see the following:
2 sets of RCA outputs
Hard drive support via plug on back.
FM 8 to 10 Presets
Choice of color LCD backlighting.
Playlist support
Cdr and cdrw support
Low affordable price.
This would grab my interest

I agree, either a hard drive plug or some other kind of multi-gigabyte EXPANDABLE storage. Another requirement would be either conveniently removable storage (and I'm not talking CD-R...need something much larger, like removable hard drive) or wireless networking for updates.
wireless networking??
no, removable HD is much better choise i think, you buy your self a hd as big as your budget allows you,
rca outputs and fm will be great, and a graphics display to. and off course remote controlled, and price 500 $ will be ok, i'll buy it for 500
Also an EQ and DSP will be fine, maybe a parametric option for the EQ will be useful for fine tuning the car's interior response
If you have seen the empeg unit from England, that is pretty close. However, I agree with meatball that an external, possibly USB or firewire based connection would provide for the most flexibility. I would then like to see an internal CD-Rom, or possibly DVD-ROM drive, which would allow any 5" disc based media to be used. If DVD-ROM is used, a video connection would be strongly recommended

Yea, I agree with AVGeek. If you could produce a unit similar to Empeg @ a low cost with great support and options you would be a popular friend!
Thanks for all of the suggestions. We are looking at a relatively low cost CD/radio/MP3 in dash player to start with. User comments and wish lists are very important and are being heard in our design process. So keep the good words coming, with respect to functions to include, displayed information, and how you use MP3.
