DVD playback causing 100% CPU usage from front-end player

Hello all,

During DVD playback from Centrafuse (or WMP), CPU Usage is 100%, most of the time pretty much locking up Centrafuse, if not becoming extremely sluggish in response to anything. However, if I play the DVD within WinDVD software itself, CPU usage is 40% - 50%, this is with Harware Acceleration enabled. If I disable hardware acceleration in WinDVD (which is the default mode), CPU usage goes up to about 90% (in WinDVD software). Looks like, to me anyway, and I might be wrong, that Centrafuse and WMP are not using hardware acceleration even if it is set in WinDVD software. Anyone know what is going on, or how I can enable hardware acceleration when using Centrafuse DVD player? Or anyone can let me know a configuration that works well for them?
By the way, I am using VIA EPIA SP13000 mobo with Panasonic slotload DVD drive in a USB enclosure.

I'll wait for any responses (appreciated!) and then I may try uninstalling WinDVD and trying PowerDVD again, to see if this probelm exists there too. Earlier I had uninstalled PowerDVD because the volume did not work in Centrafuse, but I am thinking it had something to do with being trial software.

WMP uses/controls the Windows' settings related to DVD playback, so set YUV conversion enabled and motion compensation enabled (or whatever they're called in the specific WMP version you use, look in the the advanced settings tab), and it should be reflected in Centrafuse. WinDVD probably ignores the settings, as there are reasons to disable acceleration (such as buggy old VFW codecs), that may not affect DVD performance negatively.

Also, make sure your video drivers are updated.

Thanks for the info. I actually got things working by installing an old version of WinDVD (V5, suggestion from veetid). CPU usage is 70-80% in WMP and Centrafuse now, not good by any stretch but atleast Centrafuse is still responsive now while watching dvd. I will play again soon with the other decoders after I enjoy my install for a while to see if I can find out what was happening...
