Chicago Meet Recap...

Well after a lovely (somewhat rainy weekend) in Chicago, Im back in Detroit. Here is my recap of my saturday:

I didnt finish my truck and got in bed around 2am. I was too tired to put all my seats in. However, driving around without the passenger created all sorts of room. Maybe Ill put a lazy boy in the back or something...

I was planning on leaving by 10 so I was up at 9:30. Mom wouldnt let me out the door without eggs, baccon and toast...so that set me back a half hour. So by the time I got on the road traffic was starting to clear up, but it was still bumper to bumber as you can see. BUT WE NO HOW TO DRIVE IN DETROIT!

So I set my navigation to the "Forest Reserve" and popped in a movie :)

And in about 4 hours and 2 tanks of gas (if gotta get rid of these tires!) I hit the outskirts of Chicago where I hit chicago traffic...0 mph :(

Finally I made it right on time. However, I was hoping to get there an hour early and finish my truck up...didnt happen. Dudah greeted me and within 10 minutes so did MP3Dub. The three of us showed off our setups till ricko arrived and we showed them all off again. Here are my awards:

Mp3Dub: By far the cleanest setup of the 4. The VW cut-out on his comp is the cleanest free hand design Ive seen. Boy has skills with a jigsaw.

PoBoy: Ill take the most expensive award. There is a reason Im a poor-boy. I spend it all on my toys :)

Dudah: Wire award. He had them everwhere. Even had some neon trim around his roof. Pretty slick!

Ricko: The Dreamer Award...He's got TOUCHSCREEN!! and running linux, he's got a very sweet setup.


After the showing, we couldnt find a grill at the reserve...so we dropped in on Dudah's house (parents werent home :) ). Grilled up some dogs and chicken...had some drinks...and talked some talk. Had a good time and must do it again in the near future. Here are some pics I took of the 4 cars...

All in all it was a success...Next time, EMAIL ME your cell phone numbers! Im not gonna track you down and beat your or anything if you give it to me. :) I think the guys from saturday will testify to the fact that my truck makes up for my skinniness :)

Nevertheless, we should keep these meets up...I dont plan on doing anything new to my truck for a long time, but atleast we can all share our pains of putting them together...as well as general computer geek speak.

Thanks for the recap and the compliments. I would definately be up for another meeting in several months. My fall is pretty darn busy (work my regular job then coach volleyball--starts Monday).

I definately need to clean up my wires. While my girlfriend is pretty impressed that she can watch the little arrow move on the map, I think she is annoyed at the mess.

Since the meetup, I found a cool plug in for XMMS (the Winamp clone) called OSD. It basically gives a text overlay when a song changes (title will overlay the screen) or if you press pause etc. Handy if your mp3 player is in the background with the GPS software on top. Also found a volume normalizer and more visualization effects. Goal is to install the second battery mid September, install a few fans and clean up the wires by the end of the month, then just use it for a while.

We definately need to do this again, even if its further down state to better accomidate the st louis people. and given the results of the rather last minute planing, maybe we should start planing a date now, and start looking into spots again. And my setup might have been the cleanest, but it was also the most vanilla, there were a lot of cool tricked out bits on the other rides (stereo installs, custom cases, mad crazy electronic gizmos).

Nahh... everyone knows 80mph is cruising speed for a Tank. ;)

If ya go any slower in Detroit, you get run over...80 in traffic, 85 when its clear

im sad that i got lost and missed the meet. its weird because 2 days later i went to Woodfield Mall which is right next to the place the meet was and i found the way there in like 2 seconds. anyways, i am now in Southern Illinois for a while and i can help setup a meet to have a IL/ST. Louis meet. Let me know what i need to do and how far you all want to travel. Thanks.
