nobody has any input????
A lot of your answer can be found in the FAQ, which is probably why your not getting a lot of responses.
As far as what type of computer, your probably looking at Epia boards, fullsize pcs or laptops. What would best suit your needs really depends on what you want it to do. Also, count on it be harder and more expensive than you expect.
thanks shotgun...really i want the car pc just to play mp3's and movies.....also i read the faq's and it does not tell me what mb to purchase..basically i was just askin you guys for a lil help choosin a good reliable carpc..that will do what i needed to do.. mainly do's and dont's!thanks again shotgun.
I'd hit the mp3car store, look at the boards they sell, then search the forums for what people have to say about them.
choices are almost endless, what works for one may not work for you. I've heard Jetway motherboards have some problems but that's about it. If i was you, i would start with an old computer or laptop and make that work the way u want outside the car. That will force you to come back here to learn more and more how to put it together and before you know it, you'll have a good idea of what you want and what would work for you.
You say just music and video but i guarantee you, once you start to get into it, you'll want more. Start reading and searching; and if you get stuck, post a question.
P.S. Start saving
yup, i agree. Read the FAQ and spend a few months lurking and just soaking it all in. I starting looking at this site before Christmas of last year and i have yet to install my carpc. I have bought most of the stuff but am still learning and gathering materials. First you have to decide what you want to do. Do you want to keep ur stock HU? completely swap everything out? As far as MBs, you need a mini, micro or pico motherboard. Smaller you go the more $$$. You also have to determine what your power consumption will be so that you can buy the right PSU, im using an M2-ATX. My MB is an abit micro-atx. My amp is a generic 4 channel amp. Another thing to keep in mind is that since power is scarce in a car, performance is also scarce. Unless you spend $$$ for small, low power, high perf. I am at about 530 bucks and only have to buy the screen which will add about 200 to that. The reason im at such a low dollar amount is because i have both spent a lot a lot a lot of time on ebay trying to save every last penny and because ive decided not to go big on perf. I can handle a slight delay between songs and a little longer boot times if it means saving money. Again, read the FAQ thoroughly. It answered 90% of my questions either directly or indirectly through links. Enjoy and at time youll feel like but its worth it. Happy carputing...
and if it helps, here is my itemized list of expenses
Abit micro atx-----30.45
2.5 hard drive----48.99
Projected Total= 707.6
also, look at all the installs you can. I found that a lot of my technical questions were answered just by looking at the pictures of random installs.
