Wow, first of all I'm suprised my login still works. I haven't been here in atleast 4 years.
I searched around, but wanted to ask your guys opinions since you deal with this hardware all the time.
1. What is a good serial to USB converter? I have a serial ODB2 reader I'd like to use, but my new laptop has no serial.
2. What is a good MP3 capable head unit? I'm going to be buying a Toyota pickup soon to get to work and back, since my car is starting to crap out. I don't want to go the full carputer route, since its going to be an older truck. I'm just going to stick a head unit in the glove box (and leave the old one in the dash, to deter thieves). Since you guys deal with car computers, I thought that you might be at a unique advantage to know which head unit is best, since you deal with even better in car entertainment all the time.
Thanks guys.

Well I can answer #1.
They are 2 types. The expensive $30 some-odd dolar ones, and the cheapo $5 ones. That is it.
The cheapo ones are FTDI chipsets, which are really basic, and just tie together a simple interface with a virtual COM port. Pick one up at RatShack at try it.
If it doesnt work, 30day money back guarentee. Get the expensive one.
And even though there may be a ton of brands, they are all the same 2 chips inside. So FTDI, or the other one I forgoth their name.
FTDI has always worked for me, but I hear that some really really old stuff just doesnt work.
