Is it just me, or do you guys battle devices finding new com ports or losing communication with com ports on restart or resume from standby?
I have finally gotten everything wired up into my truck just the way I want it, but the CarPC is completely unstable (and unusable). 90% of the time I have to exit RR and fiddle with the GPS to get it connected (via bluetooth) and then share the ports via XPort. I also have a recurring problem with my Xenarc touchscreen controller coming up on a different port (meaning I have to go in and add another controller) each restart/resume. I'm using a serial to usb converter here that may be causing some of this trouble.
I wish there was a way to just lock the hardware down and disable "plug-n-play" so that XP wouldn't reassign com ports. Ideas?

New system at design/prototype stage on BeagleBoard.
I agree I always have problems with COM devices. Especially when I have true serial devices and those lazy *** USB wanna be real COM devices.... THey always argue and fight and I have to disable one to get hte other to work....

No kidding!! I thought I had everything working pretty good, and decided to mess with xport to split the GPS so I could use it for i-guidance and Roadrunner, and that has made my hair go grey as results seem totally random. I'm going to try a couple of more things and it they don't work I'm pulling xport off and keeping life simple. That is if I can get xport to shut down!

I have had similar random issues with xport.
