I think I killed my keyless entry, 2005 civic

For my project, I have to move my radio, and the first start was extending the radio cable. I broke the cardinal rule and sumply cut the connector off to add an extension to the line.

Well...I forgot to disconnect the power, so the battery line was hot when I cut. When I did so, my digital gauge light up. Thats when I realized that I'm a moron. Well I continued to add the extention in and upon completion, many things stopped working:

    Keyless Entry
Door locks when car if OFF but works when on
The "you left the headlights on" screech
and my digital mile counter resets every time I turn on the car.

I assume that I shorted something out, and that I'm royally screwed.

Anybody got any alternative ideas or know what the problem could be?

    fuses

Good suggestion. I checked the ones that would seem to be involved:

    Radio/accessory
    Door Locks

and a few others. I'll check the rest, but I don't think that's it (unfortunately)

dont forget to check the relays, which should be located near the fuses.

    Also try resetting the ECU??

The relays and the ECU are mainly related to the fuel injection system, so I dont think thats it.

Everything worked fine before I cut those wires. Does anybody know what the radio is connected to? (other than the speakers, duh) There are 13 wires on the connector. 8 are speakers, 1 ground, 1 ignition, and at least 1 power. That leaves 2 lines that go to something.

ECU's these days control quite alot of things these days! The digital mile counter is one of those things which most likely the ECU controls.

I am a n00b too when it comes to these things, I just pointed out everything I could think of, hopefully so someone else would take over, or maybe you might find it helpful and might make you remember something.

Reset the ECU. Instructions should be in your manual.

Oh ok! I just read a little and it said it was for fuel injection. I'll reset it and see what it does! I hope that's all. I'll check the relays, but How do I know if they're bad or not?

i know you said you checked the fuses. but did you check all of them? your car should have an underhood fuse box in addition to the one inside oftentimes a fuse will control several seemingly unrelated things. like on older hondas the constant for the radio, the domelight, and the clock will be on one circuit. so i guess all im saying is check them all. use a meter set to test continuity and probe the contacts on the back side of each fuse. sometimes a fuse that looks good will in fact be blown. good luck

Ok, we both have 7th gens.

The stock radio has a fuse on the back. Check that first. It may have an internal fuse too I dont know. Then the fuse box under the steering wheel column on the right (if looking out windshield). Then the fuse box under the hood. The one under the hood does have a fuse for something that has to do with the radio.

I say leave the ECU alone. Something like this should not require an ECU reset.
Also I am not sure as I replaced the factory keyless entry immediately, but I think that is actually controlled through the radio. Meaning if it has no power for a certain time, its internal backup dies and you will have to "relearn" or "reprogram" the key to work with that car. Honda stealerships charge $90 just for the programming.
