From what I understand, I could be wrong, that there is a major hardware difference between xm and sirius recievers... I dont think they can "Merge" and still use all the same equipment.
Look at the Nimiq footprints. Some are outdated like the image below though.
They used to use Nimiq 1 and Nimiq 2. So it stretched as far as the image shows. But they positioned 2 new satellites directly below the 2 current ones (Nimiq 3 and Nimiq 4) which actually block the southern signal. So I am pretty as far south as can be with a normal sized dish. But the larger the dish, the farther away you can be. Also with the new satellites, it shrinks it east/west too. For instance SanFrancisco cannot receive BEV signals without a larger dish.
I think Miami would be cutting it close. You can ask any local satellite installer to see if they can find the satellites before you order your stuff. But beware they are very close to Dish Network satellites, and if they misaim the BEV dish at the Dish Network sats, you just wasted your receiver because it cannot be reporgrammed without sending it back to BEV which you cant because you are not a Canadian subscriber.
Anyone can get it, but only canadians can get it legally. There are many "brokers" who will setup a Canadian P.O. box for you and sell you the equiptment and ship it down for you.

That is correct Custommx3. From what I've read they're planning to put out dual band receivers at some point after the merger.
Well I am ****ed..... it does look like Sirius and XM are allowing channels to be swapped (best of sirius and best of xm), but in order to do the a la carte thing, you have to buy a new radio..... this really sucks since I like that my XM Direct is intergrated into my setup. I dont even see that the XM Direct 2 even has the ability. This really sucks. So now I have to wait for a new solution.

It's no surprise about the a la carte thing. It was made pretty clear that current radios wouldn't be compatible with that feature.
I understand why you would need a new radio in order to choose an "a la carte" package consisting of channels from both XM and Sirius, but I see no reason why you can't choose an "a la carte" package if you stick with one service or the other.
you can call them up and have them remove/disable individual channels from your subscription (but you still pay the full subscription price), so why can't you choose what channels you want within your own service and pay less through a service-specific "a la carte" package?![]()

You won't be the only one, there are a lot of angry people today.
So who does this deal benefit?
I hear a lot of XM people ****ed that their favourites are gone/merged.
And a lot of Sirius people (including me) are ****ed because their favourites are merged with the crap from the dark side.
So who actually likes this damned merger?! They need to be beaten with a blunt object to get it back to the way it was...
